Q: A small amount of money is missing in my bank account?

Someone suggested that I put my money in the bank for safe keeping. I was told there are no fees for withdrawal, so I figured it was a good idea. I hadn't checked it for a while, but today I withdrew some money, and saw it was down almost 100 RMB. Why? Are there fees I don't know about? Why would there be any money missing?

How often do you take money out? Do you ever deposit money by the machine, or transfer it? Do you always use your bank's bank machine?

Not sure about other banks, but ICBC takes fees if I use a machine outside of my own district, if I deposit, or if I transfter. The first fee is small, but the latter two are pretty big.

There's also a fee (not too big) if you use a bank machine from another bank.

If I were you, I will go to the branch of the bank were you do keep your millions stached for safekeeping (remember all foreigners are millionares) with someone that can translate, and just ask them the same question you have asked us.  And there you will get from the horses mouth where the missing 100 Rmb went, so you will be aware in the future of some of the fees and charges Chinese banks do make.

And a side tip, do make a little bit of noise by raising your voice, who knows, you may get some Rmb back to please the foreigner.....  It has worked for me before.

Good luck to you, my dear, now you will become an expert on bank charges.

You opened the wrong account and you are not keeping enough money in it. The same thing happened to me a while ago. The bank told me there were not fees but forgot to tell me that there were only no fees if i keep so much money in the account. They will not tell you all the detail of the account you are opening unless you ask all the right questions, I am guessing this is what is going on, so go into the bank and kiss you 100rmb good bye and chage it to another account that allows smaller amounts to be held in savings.

If you go to an ATM machine at your bank, you can simply put your card into the account, enter your PIN, and then select "account history" from the menu.  This will list all the deposits, withdrawals, charges, etc., that have occured on the account.  If you have any questions about this, then go the bank branch where you maintain your account and go through the items in question with them.
