I always read about people being sad or depressed during China's long winters. But there are many good aspects from the cold weather as well. Now keep in mind, I, and some other eChina users live in the Northeast where it drops to near minus 40. When the temperature plummets below zero, there is a lot of advatages too.
For example, when the weather gets cold, I really enjoy eating hot pot with friends. Something about sitting around a big table with friends and eating reminds me of the holidays back in the U.S. Also I enjoy the snow, its beautiful (when it first falls and is still white). I'm from California where the winter rarely gets cold and we can walk around in shorts and a T-shirt most the year.
What do you enjoy about China's long and cold winters? Really interested in hearing from DaqingDevil. For those of you in Southern China, one of the most amazing things I've seen in China is the Harbin Ice festival and Changbaishan (Ever White Mountain that borders North Korea). Check out the winter seen here sometime.
I'd love to see the Harbin ice festival but it ain't gonna happen this year. Here in Guangxi winter's not too severe and not too long. I like the winter, there's no such thing as 'cozy' during the summer months.
Spring Festival is in the winter, and it's a good chance to get out of China for a bit. That's as good an aspect as I can think of.
