Today, China has celebrated glory. The glory of war, and the victory. It has shown it is ready, that it will never be invaded and humiliated again. Go for it China.
And lets be honest. China displayed its guns today. Both in Beijing and off the coast of Alaska. China is saying don't mess with us. Good on them.
I believe this would constitute treason.
You hate China and you hate commies, rasklnik. We get it. Aren't you a bit of a traitor even just living and working in China? You'll probably be on a watchlist when you head back to the states - no, wait, you're not a Muslim.
Using words like traitor is just retarded. Do you really feel you belong to team America? Do you feel that your destiny is intertwined with those other 300 million Americans? If so then the brainwashing and pledging to the flag worked.
It's 1950's bullshit. McCarthyism. China isn't Communist or Socialist anyhow. America is more Socialist than China is.
All countries are the same, run by the same self-serving assholes. It's just with Democracy you get to swap assholes every three or four years.
Patriotism is chloroform to independent thought and a useful tool for those in power.
World of tanks just released new Japanese tank tree
Lots of heavy tanks in the lower tiers that we have never seen before
however their armor is like wet cardboard
Chinese tanks might have a good run against them if they don't run away
Interesting how you can take a couple of sentences out of a full post and they then read quite differently to the points he was trying to put across
I think scots is pretty entertaining, realistic and very knowledgeable about a whole lot of worldly issues.
How this becomes treason is beyond me.
I do not agree with the way China "celebrated" 70? years of liberation from Japan. I do think that they are making steps to being a more worldly people.
Leave Japan out of it and get on with it.
and if you want to talk nationalism of patriotism..... and get a reasonable response, I suggest, that you suggest, a Scotch, that is as good or better than any Scotch that did not originate in Scotland.
I can possibly name a dozen VODKA's that are not Russian.
have another beer, bhgal.
If ScotsAlan was actually Chinese we could argue that he is patriotic. But he isn't. Therefore, to praise a rival, a rival who frowns on humanity, a rival who killed his countrymen in the 50's, is somehow something to praise "good on them" seems madness...
...or is this sparta!
ScotsAlan:
What on earth are you talking about? China has the second highest arms budget in the world. About $103 billion a year I think. The US budget is about $540 billion. Why is China such a threat to the world? Can you imagine next year if Donald Trump is voted in as leader of the free world and gets his paws on all those guns? Wow. With a threat like that to world stability I should think every nation on earth would be making all the guns they could. Or use any other Republican name rather than Trump. They are religious fanatics. How many people died Las time a religious fanatic was in the White House. Daily prayer meetings to ask the Lord to guide his missiles and bombs straight and true to destroy the infidels. To me its simple. People should be respected. Their pride should be respected. Their beliefs should be respected. I formulate my opinion based on facts and observation. Not on what faux news or the daily mail says.
Just saw this.
I am spending a lot less time on ECC these days. Fed up being listed as the top poster when I don't actually know much about anything. And I don't actually post that much.
Anyway, I am a confessed left winger. And as such I prefer to think of solutions to problems rather than take the conservative direction... To shout "YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!"
Has anyone noticed that? Left wingers see a problem, think about it, and suggest a possible solution. Right wingers just proclaim the left to be wrong and put in some insults, without actually putting forward any solutions themselves.
To be called out personally for my views is actually a compliment. If people are afraid of what I say and try to silence me by accusing me of being something they decry as abhorrent, it's not because they are right. It's because they know I am right and are scared of others listening to me.
Socialism makes sense. Look at how many Americans are "feeling the Bern". Look at todays election results for the leader of Her Majesties Opposition.
Ha ha. Fill your boots. Accuse me of anything you want.
But remember, history is not finished yet. Give it 50 years, and people will be wondering how on earth fear mongering neo-cons ever got into Government.
Oh... Treason against who ? The only person I swore an oath of allegiance to is Queen Elizabeth II. That was when I joined the British Army many moons ago. So, technically she is the only person I can commit treason against.
Treason is a difficult thing to define really. For example, when Obama announced the Iran deal earlier this year, 72 Republicans signed an open letter to Iran saying they would go back on the deal after the next Republican president was elected.
That to me is treason against the democratically elected chief. If you disagree with your elected president you argue with him, not send an almost declaration of war to a country you perceive as an enemy.
Not only was signing that letter treason against the Government, it was treason against humanity. War hawks who want death and destruction because they get money from the gun makers to fund their election campaigns.
Corruption is treason too. Treason against the people.

isn't Traveler gay?
so if scotsalan is a fellow-traveler…
the term is Sodomite, not Treason.
keep terms medieval & authentic!
ScotsAlan:
Ha ha. Not gay. But pro LGBT rights. I am a libtard...and proud of it. Feck... I am so much a libtard I even defend your right to be homophobic coin:-)
coineineagh:
when you put it like that, i'm a fellow-traveler too. and for the record, my best friend is gay. he and his boyfriend helped me out more than my mother could. Moving out my furniture, Western Union errands and stuff like that.

Sorry for the multiple posts. Windows phone has been upgraded and it is now even worse.
Who am I as traitor to?
I am a migrant. Am I not allowed to feel patriotic towards the country I migrated to?
Seems western counties demand allegiance. But I am a traitor if I respect the work china has done against poverty.
America bombs a hospital in Afghanistan. A war crime. No ifs and no buts. They bombed it. And because I object to western war crimes against humanity I am a traitor?
dongbeiren:
The U.S. Military, the British who typically support its hostile actions overseas and the Zionist regime in Palestine should all be held accountable for their crimes.
That doesn't absolve China for its wrongdoings but the atrocities committed by world powers in the name of freedom should not be overlooked or unpunished.
Pop pop. Still waiting. The op has posted an answer but ignored this thread. Come on op. At least apologize. Or answer.

@Rasklnik
I absolutely agree that cheering on China in its pursuit of military superpowerdom (not to mention endorsing history distortion) is beyond retarded.
It's the word "traitor" that people object to.
The word implies that national loyalty is mandatory. It suggests that a person's ideological stance should be dictated by their nationality.
Chinese people are, when discussing international relations, always loyal to their nation. Do you commend their patriotism? If a Chinese person were to speak against Beijing's ideological and military goals, would they be a traitor? Would that be good or bad?
Nationalism is bad. The word "traitor" only makes sense if you accept nationalism as desirable.
"ScotsAlan is seriously confused as to what China is about" would have been more reasonable.
You hate China and you hate commies, rasklnik. We get it. Aren't you a bit of a traitor even just living and working in China? You'll probably be on a watchlist when you head back to the states - no, wait, you're not a Muslim.

Rasklnik, do you feel that U.S. green card holders who retain citizenship of another country but feel loyal to the U.S. are traitors to their respective countries? There is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing appreciation to a different government or praising the "good works" of said government, especially when you've lived under that government's system for years. Do I agree with all or most of what ScotsAlan says? Not really, I'm not a left winger myself but I do appreciate his perspective and find it interesting that he seems to be souring on China as of late.
But your whole premise of starting this thread was pretty ridiculous- you're just calling out another forum member with a loaded term that is meaningless. Funny thing is, people who think like you would likely be critical of Chinese students who study in the U.S. but remain loyal to China - there would be cries of "Why can't they assimilate and appreciate the freedoms we give them... and why don't they speak English with each other!"
Look, you feel that the system in the West is categorically better than the Chinese system. Most people on this forum, including myself would agree with that statement. But if someone doesn't (and I've met a few but not many expat Sinophiles in China) it is not fair to brand them as "traitors" and stifle the open discussion with ad hominem attacks.
