Q: Starting a charity in China...

Best way to do? What to watch for? I want to help rural children and pregnant and nursing moms. Education, vitamins, equipment. You name it.

Don't know. But I would donate my points to it.

In Zhuhai there are a couple of annual events that are so-called charities. "So-called" because although the surplus goes to help people, there are plenty of people taking their cuts. E.g. the owner of one of the venues would charge a percentage of the profit that would otherwise go to charity.

Use the internet to find like minded in your area, you can't save the world alone.

Any and all NGO, particularly those with foreign involvement, are strictly controlled by Beijing.  You are going to have to wander through a maze of hoops to get this thing up-and-going and then you will be subject to stringent controls (as foreign involvement is present).

You have a wonderful, wonderful idea but why not work through an organization already on the ground?  If you don't trust the Chinese Red Cross, then there are so many others.  Medecins-san-Frontieres is present here in China.

Here, you live and die alone with your problems, unless there's a quick buck to be made out of them.

Haha, this cheered me up.

But seriously good luck, charity is truly an alien concept here...

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
