Q: temporary work in Shanghai

Is it possible to find a temporary job and visa sponsorship for an English job in Shanghai?

I am an American teacher with an MA in TESOL/Linguistics and I am currently in Dalian working at a university. My contract finishes in January; however, I am planning on going back to the US in June. This means that I need to find work from late January until June.

My fear is that no one will want to hire me for such a short time, especially considering that they have to go through the visa process. Of course I could agree to a year-long contract with an employer then leave early but this is dishonest. Not to mention that if I leave early and breech contract, more than likely, my employer will keep my last month's paycheck.

If anyone could give some advice, it would be much appreciated.

Best,

The mad scientist

Spring Festival is in early February so most places will be closed to allow everyone to travel home.

Your best bet for a short term teaching contract is in a training school: they will pay better than public schools and probably more willing to accommodate a shorter contract period.

There is always that possibility. I got my current job like that - because they had a teacher who wasn't happy there, and they weren't happy with him, so they mutually decided to end it.

Also, there are lots of 'teachers' who do a runner during Spring Festival, and so some places can get desperate for a take-over. And that means, if they can't get you for 12 months, then they'll take you for whatever they can (in a number of ways Tongue - after all, why did the teacher do a runner in the first place?)
