Q: Is there such a thing as a 50 Cent?

We've all heard stories of 'wumaos', God knows, a few of us have even been accused of being them. So what of their foreign equivalents? Are there those around, employed by foreign powers to spread propaganda on sites such as these? 50 Cents or 50 Pence or.....I don't know 5 Rupees or whatever currency you want to call them?

Not trying to spread paranoia here, personally I find the whole idea utterly tedious. I couldn't even care less if you were all here to spread propaganda, just as long as you keep me interested, i'll keep coming back. Just another subject of conversation, that's all. Gotta bump up those points, y'know?

Both sites have not only the definition but even the debate as to whether they are real or not.

Hugh.G.Rection:

I think you have his idea mixed up.

He doesn't appear to be asking what a wumao IS, I think he is suggesting that there are some non Chinese posters on here who are being paid by 'western' governments to post western propaganda.

Are you suggesting that other countries are involved in preaching their own brand of propaganda?    Shame on you.  I can't see it happening here.

Yeh, I don't mean the rapper or the money, I mean are there people on sites such as this who are employed to spread western propaganda? The 50 Cent thing was just my nickname for such losers. You know? Wumao / 50 Cent. Just being cute.

I don't know about on this site, but on other political blogs I used to use and post on quite regularly, we exposed a couple of Labour party members who were employed full time to post the 'party' line.

Then there was the Damian McBride political fiasco in the UK a few years back, he was employed by the Labour party to smear political rivals but went a lot too far and was exposed.

crimochina:

a political party hiring people to post drivel towing the party line is different from the government hiring people to claim that their badminton players throwing a match is the same as a soccer team resting it's players after they have wrapped things up.

Are you a 50 center?    Please note, I DID NOT accuse you, I just asked the question.

Loke, were you asking me or CoC?

If you were asking me then no I'm not. If you were asking Coc, well, that's up to him to answer.
