Do you tip in China? Like taxi cabs, waiters or vendors that sell you good product?

NO NO NO NO NOOOO!!!

Tipping is a horrible horrible 'Merican import, and should be completely veto'd everywhere. In America tipping is important because the waiters and waitresses don't get a minimum wage as specified by state or government, so they need tips to survive.

In the UK, the law states that all employees must receive a minimum wage to live on, so tipping is appreciated, but not necessary.

In China, tipping is not the culture. The first time I came here in 2005, I gave the taxi driver too much money and got out of the cab. He ran after me and pressed my change into my hand! Tipping was unheard of then (in smaller cities and towns).
Now in China's 1st tier cities many upmarket restaurants and hotels will include a 15% service charge (that shows on the bill) or expect a tip in place of that.

Don't tip anyone in China unless it's shown on the bill.
