Q: Is this true? No more Z visa runs in Hong Kong?

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT.

We just learned from several individuals that as of September 01, 2013 it is no longer possible to obtain a work visa in Hong Kong and that all individuals must return back to their home country in order to obtain their visa or use international service.

RECENTLY TAKEN FROM FOREIGN MINISTRY OF PRC IN HONG KONG WEBSITE."If you don't reside or work in Hong Kong permanently, you are required to apply Chinese visa from the Embassy or Consulate-General of Peoples' Republic of China in your resident country."

my school is sending a canadian to hong kong next week, so i will let you know what the reality is, not the perception or written law, which really means nothing in china.

he came on a tourist visa because the school wanted him here for the beginning of school year rather than waiting one more week for the work visa to be approved, imagine that

I don't think this part of info from Embassy in HK was added recently. That's on 'forever', but  it wasn't implemented.

If I understand correct, PSB approve or disapprove visa pick-up in HK Embassy. PSB in Tianjin, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou always required FT pick-up Z in country of origin. PSB in other Provinces would grant HK Z pick-up.

4, If you don't reside or work in Hong Kong permanently, you are required to apply Chinese visa from the Embassy or Consulate-General of Peoples' Republic of China in your resident country.

As it looks, HK Embassy is updating their website. Embassy account is suspended:

No it is not true.   I personally know a man here in SZ from the UK who just went to HK last month and got his Z after july and sept.   It can still be done if you have money and have the right connections.    This is China, can it be better?

ironman510:

British will always be granted visa's. I believe you. I hope Americans will also be allowed to get Z visa's in Hong kong, its a long flight home.

It is not true. Got my Z visa in 24 hours time in HK on the 11th of September. My another collegue got it on the 10th of October. No problems can be faced  as long as you have the proper documents.

ironman510:

Good news man, I see this is your first post, thanks for taking the time to update us all on this matter.

Apparently each province has different rules on this one.  As of this date (July 19, 2014) I am told that aspiring FTs wishing to work in Sichuan can get sent to HK to get a Z visa.

I live in Guangdong, I just came back from HK on Friday with my new Z-visa. Your invitation letter must state that you have to process your visa in HK and not your home country, and you need the entry slip delivered by HK immigration when entering the territory, this is the "Hong Kong Residence Permit" thing. The same day pick up is not available anymore (it was a year ago). The fee for regular speed is 200 HKD and it takes 3 and half or 4 working days depending on whether you apply on morning or afternoon.

congrats

what about non-teaching Z visa...

I am planning to apply for a Z from HK soon..

The truth is that the post I am working on is not exactly for a foreign expert but one can modify truth to say that this job needs a person who can speak 3-4 languages.. like Arabic English and a few Asian...

Eorthisio:

Mine is a non-teaching, no problems as long as your invitation letter state that you must apply for it in HK.

Well, I understand this is according to each province. Some would stick to the rule, some would be more tolerant. In Shandong, they  ask you to return to your home country if you want your Viza renewed.

Eorthisio:

Shandong is one of the few provinces selected by the central government in Beijing to "try out" the future immigration laws, that's why it is harder to get a Z-visa in Shandong and almost impossible to get and invitation letter that state "Hong Kong" an not your home country. In a few years from now these new laws might or might not be extended to the whole country.

There shatters my hope...

I was planning to secure a Z visa from HK but my job is in Qingdao.

If my invitation letter says that I will be applying from HK...still its not possible?

@hunny: Invitation letter (with HK Z pick-up) must be approved by Gov., as I understand. I'm not sure by which one: SAFEA (FEBureau) or PSB.

I did look for job last two months, and many schools told me, I must return home for Z pick-up.

In HK, sponsored by Fujian school. I exited China (to HK) a week after school applied for new WPermit, so I wasn't sure if HK pick-up will be granted. I was in HK 2 weeks, before returning to Fujian with new Z last week.

I'd say SAFEA, because school applies for WPermit there, but it might be PSB. I'll ask my school rep. about it.

By Fujian School's rep., at WPermit application School must write, where FT wants to pick-up Z.

In 2011, Tianjin School applied for WP, and wrote HK as pick-up on application. It got denied, and I had to return home for Z.

School was covering all Z cost, so it was in School's interest to get Z in HK.

I assume, Z pick-up location must be approved by FEB.
