Q: Try and find a pair of shoe laces in Nanchang.

Seems like simple common sense items like shoe laces or hand sanitizer are like finding a needle in a chopstick stack...

which reminds me- safety pins seem to be missing too.

You must not have a WalMart store nearby.  At the store near my place, they do sell shoe laces and hand sanitizing lotion.

As a suggestion, try in an open market area near you to find a place that repairs shoes,  Here, they all carry shoe laces.  In fact, one has them in a roll, and cuts it to the length you desire.  Later you will have to dip each end into molten wax to avoid it from becoming apart with usage.

The outside markets or the simple street vendors usually have all those little things. It's where I get many of my "little trinkets". You shouldn't have to look so hard for stuff like that.
