Q: Undeclared cash limit upon entry? And/Or ?

I've read different translations for undeclared currency.

1.  Can bring $5000 usd and 20,000 rmb

2.  Can bring $5000 usd or 20,000 rmb

I need to bring enough for housing deposit and first month before I receive salary.

thanks,

I had lived and worked in China for a number of years, earning between 5000, and up to about 18000. Rented my own apartment, paid bills etc etc..

When I wanted to get an L visa to hang around for an extra 30 days, I needed to provide proof of being able to look after myself here (without breaking the law by working).

20,000RMB.

WTF???? When I was on 1/4 of that, I was able to survive! Why the hell would I need to have 20K now???

China is stupid!

You're right he doesn't need to bring in so much but his situation is different from what you're describing, he's setting himself up.

But if he's not planning on living in a hotel for the first 2 months, he's making a mistake. You should be a minimalist for the first 2 months to checkout the school and city and make sure you want to stay.

There are these things called banks, they give you a visa debit card and you can withdraw money from an ATM.

Which country you're from?

For example, I'm from USA , so Bank of America is the bank I chose before leaving because I did my homework and found that BOA allows no-fee withdrawals from China Construction bank

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
