Q: What acts of charity have you done for the Chinese people with whom you live?

Someone on this Board recently raised the name of St. Thomas Aquinas to which I would now like to add the name of St. Vincent de Paul.  There are always more fortunate than we are and less fortunate than we are.  China, on the occasion, begs for acts of charity.  What have your contributions been, large or small?

Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

I point it out to them when they're being idiots. But, over the years, the west has given so much to China in terms of aid that I feel I gave at the office.

I was not asking the question on a national level nor on a religious level.  The question was simply, to restate it again, whether or not members of this board, on an individual basis, have given to or provided for charitable works in China.  Any answers on the level on which the question was formulated would be most appreciated.  Thanks to all.

That sounds specifically religious to me.

Aid? For more than 5 years (before i came to China) I aided NGO`s in Africa, India and in Eastren Europe, with great regret as it was never used as I wanted, but used even for personal gain.
The worst was in Cameroon, where i was given land to promote tourism. I was forcefully removed (instructed by the local Fon) after i built 18 houses. The Fon moved in with his many wifes and kids and left his pallace deserted, as it looked like s_ _t.

Yes, as I believe in 'giving to the community where I live' and so I taught free English classes in a primary school [grades 4, 5 and 6] two times a week and one evening a refresher course to all the teachers. The school was most happy but then other schools in the district also wanted me to do this... simply too much and I had to decline... Ias I really had a 'regular job'.
