Q: What are the associated dangers when not wearing protective gears while riding a bike in China?

Thought I'd bring this up since people always complain about the traffic rules and the way people drive on the road.

I'm a firm believer in wearing helmets. Mostly I see motorcycle taxi drivers wear construction hard hats and no chin straps. I spent days looking for a good helmet for my GF, I never found a proper helmet, no shock absorbing material inside. The one I bought based on her colour choice was just a shell with some netting inside. I asked a guy wearing a full face helmet if I could look at it, again, no shock absorbing material.

I've taken some mean spills on bikes, and always glad I wore a helmet, at least my head never felt anything. I generally wear gloves, not here, can't find good ones. Your first instinct when you go flying is the stick out your hands and there isn't that much skin on your hands. Depending on speed, I'll wear leathers.

By bike you mean bicycle? We have helmet laws for kids, head injuries were quite common for kids on bikes as well as motorcycles. Your skull isn't that thick and even a good bang can cause brain injuries, right mat, you know about brain injuries?

I wouldn't feel comfortable riding a bike in China wearing anything less than full hockey gear head to toe (minus the skates).

The associated dangers would be you could die.  If they don't kill you on the first hit they may back up over you to finish the job...cheaper than paying the hospital bills don't ya know.

Like the dude said, same risks as anywhere else but here they stop and back over you for bonus points; assuming they were paying attention when they ran over you in the first place.

Your head through a window.... and watch out for car doors abruptly opening, they can be a bitch. Actually watch out for everything, and assume that no one else is watching out for you.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
