5 out of 10?
9 out of 10?
1 out of 10?
Which other place could offer a good deal, Taiwan? Hong Kong?

Having seen a first rate English teacher from Nigeria get turned down, I would say that they are not so good (the chances, not the teachers from Africa). Wish it were otherwise...
I want to take a positive view here:
I believe that there is a new and possibly growing attraction to having a black guy teaching English and that some schools and students (and maybe most importantly their parents) actually WOULD like to see one in a school.
As long as they have (and maybe most times) more of the regular kind of foreign English teachers.
But I really do believe there is a place! Maybe it is 1-in-10 but still think that is 10 tries. 10 places and 1 is interested. So that's not so bad after all.
About a 9/10! But that all depends on if you are willing to cooperate with them and go along with the "I'm from the UK thing!" It's a 9 out of 10 because if they have an opening and there is someone actually from the UK then they get the job and thus all jobs at that point would have been taken. But it's a good chance for you to get a deal just as long as you go with the "I'm from the UK saying!"

Is that a fact? I'm wondering why a couple of people pressed the down button. Any way thanks for the encouragement.
About 2/10. Maybe even 3/10. They'll probably judge you negatively based on your skin color but once you show them that you speak fluently and know how to teach they'll likely take you if there aren't any better candidates available. This is of course assuming that it's a real school and not an English factory looking for a white face to boost sales.
About 1/10 and then be extremely, extremely careful. As I said somewhere to you in another post, try the hinterlands of the poorer provinces. Nonetheless, even if you were to do that, do so with extreme care.
Ishe:
Ok fair enough, But I was wondering about the housing in the 'hinterlands' and by 'be careful' do you mean on salary negotiations, late payment or visa application? I appreciate your feedback, I'm just hoping to get a clearer picture.
just how many Chinese employers clearly specify that "we do not want blacks" when hiring employees here, and they do not specify black from Africa, they do clarify black in general, no matter where you come from they simply do not want you, so the chance I believe is 1 out of 10 or even out of a 100 tries and it does not have to do with how qualified you are.
