Martin's right.
If you're a foreigner, you'll get fired and most probably deported.
If you're the average Chinese teacher, you'll be in deep poopoo.
If you're a Chinese teacher with super guanxi, nothing. You'll probably keep goin up the ranks.
It totally depends on the school and the management there. I have seen real predators at several schools who get away with anything...Let your morals be the guide, in my book a teacher should never "put his pecker in the payroll"
first thing is to avoid whatever the person is doing , affair with student in class its immoral in my eyes but if you have done it so be sure not be caught red handed...
hahaha if in case caught, may God help you . untill you are safe and secure be in it,but remember ball changes the courts so best of luck
Well, two things. I don't feel sorry for the ones who get caught in this scandle. Second, I've seen this happen by the Head Foreign Teacher at a University I taught at, but then again he was with a lot of teachers too. The part of intergity should play a an important moral role in one's thought process, but then again.
The great part about most of these situations is you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar, some bad things can happen, but the other is worse. You pay the cookie jar to keep quiet and the cookie jar has a never ending bottom that can consume your monthly salary. Or even better, the foreigner blackmails or threatens the student or teacher, then later finds themselves having to pay even more money to both the student/teacher and the police.
haha. good topic to discuss. i never heard of such news before
One of my Chinese girlfriends married one of her Chinese university teachers. They figured it was normal.
The consequences are that it reflects back to the good teachers, who know where to draw the line. Teacher with no morals or standards give decent teachers a very bad name, as we are then judged all the same. I was visiting a University Anhui, 2 years past an Australian teacher got caught having an affair with a student, she became pregnant, and he ran home to his mummy. The school endured several days of protests from angry parents. The girl who had wealth parents who put the blamed to he. She was disowned by all of her family. So I guess the consequences arrive in different forms.
It depends.
If the teacher is a foreigner, then he is evil and should be deported.
If the teacher is Chinese, then he is evil in the eyes of Chinese people but foreigners cannot criticize his behavior because we are "guests" in this country.
Let's call it what it is; It is not an affair, it is a breach of morals and ethics, and it's molestation if the student is under the age of consent. No matter if it happens in China or the good ole U. S. of A.
Firstly let's assume that both parties are legally adults, otherwise this is totally off my morality radar!
When I started out teaching (in the UK) we had a firm rule that meant disciplinary action would be taken against any member of staff (teaching or otherwise) who had a 'relationship' with any student, (our students were all 16+), however this was challenged as having no legal backing and so all staff had to sign up to a code of conduct which had the same clause in it. After I left this too was successfully challenged by a member of staff who was married to a student, (they were married before she became a student).
When I was doing my PGCE teacher training, most of my fellow students (teachers under training type students) thought this a bit harsh. Then when I did my CELTA course they were all aghast and many of them said this was a breach of their (i.e. the Students and Staff's) Human rights, indeed the (CELTA) course instructor even went so far as to seek my permission to take this case to the Union, (NUT I think but not 100% on which Union).
My own view is no relationship should START while a student is under a teachers care, i.e. if the student is in one of your classes they are out of bounds, and personally I wouldn't even think about any student at the school. However, adults are adults and human and so long as nothing is coerced and fairness for ALL students can be guaranteed I would have to reluctantly allow it, (not that it is in my remit to allow or forbid).
