Q: what do you do when you cant tell the gender?

http://dailycaller.com/2017/06/16/canada-passes-law-criminalizing-use-of-wrong-gender-pronouns/

I can't believe what is happening in Canada. Is anybody got any common sense left?

I'm sorry I can't speak to you, I can't say he, she, or it, because if I'm wrong its a hate crime that will put me in jail, so f@ off and leave me alone.

OK, so the local citizens have to be dragged into the progressive 21st century, fine, have at it, but what about the multicultural aspect of other cultures who don't even believe in gender equality at all and the homophobic cultures, Is Canada going to lock up everybody?

The Chinese may represent about 10 percent of the population and growing and many Muslims, I hope they have a lot of jail spaces.

Canada is a country where the vocal minority has a lot of say. Personally I think the sex issue is an individual concern. But some people want every body else to be the same sex as they are. Kind of like religion. Most Canadians are not crazy. Trudeau is a populist kind of guy. He is catering to the Baby boom generation because that is where the votes are now. Actually most Canadians couldn't give a shit what the politicians do in Ottawa. The government banned capital punishment and filled our jails without building new ones. Now murderers a pedophiles are going free because they can't get a trail. Pot is officially legal next year. The government still hasn't figured out how the 70% of Canadians who don't do pot are supposed to seek legal redress for things like growing more pot than allowed, or stinking up the neighbor's property. From the outside we do look kind of stupid. Don't worry about people going to jail for making the mistake of calling a boy a girl. There aren't any spaces in the jails and you will have to wait 5 years for a trial date. Meanwhile you can get high. I love this country. And I am still happy that it is a "kind of" democracy. At least I can criticize my government and change it once in a while. And not get shot for it like you would in some countries.

Slow death of free speech, Liberals are supposed to be the scientific people. Science dictates, an animal is born one of 2 genders. If you have the tools of a man, you are male. Female, have the tools for females. So speaking the truth can get you jailed. Gender is not what you fucking feel. I feel like I'm president so does that mean I can just walk into the Whitehouse.

Title 9 (hope i got it right) gives women the right to have their own sports teams/ league in schools but CA allowed men who feel like women to compete on women's team and the right to be in the girls locker rooms. So there's a girl only good enough to take the last spot that's gonna lose her opportunity to play on the team and get better. How many pros started out at the last spot in high school.

When gender is unknown, "they" is acceptable.

You guys are morons!

the law is that if a person chooses to identify in a particular way (and, no doubt, there needs to be evidence of this! Not just a "today, I think I'm a girl" type of thing), and someone blatantly refuses to call them by that identity marker (as in, "I don't give a shit how you feel about it, what I think about you is vastly more important than what YOU think about yourself") - then yes, it's a good law!

I'm sure many of you don't really care too much about the suicide statistics across the planet, particularly in the young LGBT demographic....

Many of you are basically saying - BE what I want you to be... and just suck it up if you don't like it!

Stiggs:

Well the way I read the OP was "what do you do when you can't tell the gender?"

It happens, I've been in that situation myself. A new guy at work who was obviously openly gay, had sculpted eyebrows and eye makeup, wearing clothes that weren't obviously male or female, had a hairstyle that could go either way, was very camp and effeminate... until he / she or whatever comes out and says he / she wants to be referred to as a male / female / other option then how the fuck is anyone supposed to know how to refer to.... whatever?

Excuse me, we fired the hermaphrodite last week for sleeping with him or her self at work, are you the replacement? We try to have a gender neutral toss salad in the workplace.

@ Stiggs - easy - ASK!

Although, really, it would be that person's responsibility to let people know... surely they're not that ignorant of the impression they give people that they don't know that it might be ambiguous.

If you call a 'he' a 'she', and they correct you... fine, just accept it.

But this law wiil NOT mean if yoiu call 'he' a 'she', you can be taken to court or arrested for a hate crime!

Again - this law has been introduced so that people aren't forced to accept what other people tell them they have to be!

Is it really that hard to understand?

Or is it simply that because you're comfortable in your world that you have difficulty understanding that other people don't? And, thus, you are still trying to enforce your  views (about gender, sex roles, etc) onto those that don't feel the same way!

To put it bluntly - those who are bitching and complaining about this law are precisely the reasons why this law has been put into place!

(and, for those wondering, it won't actually be that difficult to determine if a person is trying to fake it! We have the science to read people's reactions to various stimulii)

OMFGs... if you honestly think that's the best article that explains the law, then you've seriously dented my opinion of your cognitive abilities!

Yes, there are issues to be addressed (as mentioned in the article).. but like any good piece of propaganda, insert a few truths into the BS.

No, gender is NOT a patriarchal concept... it wouldn't matter if we were in a matriarchy, or we finally get gender equality... there will still be people who will not identify with (feel like) the body they're in.

However, the worst thing about this whole article is it completely misses the point.. and I mean completely!

Are there other, probably more pressing issues to address? Abso-fucking-lutely! The article even mentions them. But, attacking one law for not addressing other more important issues  doesn't actually make the law bad.

it is a shame that this is the best article i could find, maybe you should write one for the canadian papers, it could not be any worse.

I just find the world was fine without gender issues 20 years ago and now all of sudden you can get in more trouble for calling someone the wrong sex than driving over people that are the wrong religion.

So after you make churches obsolete, and everyone is asexual, what do you want to force down our throats next.

with all the problems in the world, this is the issue of the day, wtf.
