Hi,
I'd really appreciate some help! I'm in the Philippines. I'm an American guy who has taught in China before and have a letter of release and letter of recommendation. I want to start a new university teaching job in China ASAP! It has been one delay after another as it's already April. :( The school has been incredibly patient. I have all my documents..work permit, letter of invitation, etc. I'm very angry with the recruiter who placed me in this job. He had me contact a visa agent in the U.S.A. He told me there's no way that I could apply for a Z visa here in the Philippines. I talked to a gal at the Chinese Consulate here in Cebu and was told that I could only get a Z visa if I was a resident here. I've also been told by a recruiter months ago that in only limited cases (Only certain provinces.) could I apply for and get a Z visa here in a 3rd party country.
I e-mailed the visa agent all my documents for a pre-screening. I was just told by them that there's a new law that states that I have to be in my home country to get a Z visa and they can't guarantee that the nearest Chinese Consulate will grant me a Z visa!!!!!!!!!! :( The fee that I would send them along with the actual documents by express mail is non-refundable. :( I already told the recruiter this some time ago! :( (I had been told by a friend about this change in the law some time ago.) It's actually been in effect since last Sep. 1. * I am so stressed!!!!!!! I have spent soooooo much money! I wish that I had NEVER come here but had secured a new job 1st in China last summer!!!!!!!!!!!! :( I have very little money!!! The other day the recruiter said that I should contact some other visa agents in the U.S.A. WTF! I just told him what the recent visa agent said about the new law and there's no guarantee that the nearest Chinese Consulate back home will grant me a Z visa! Now, he's given me deadlines. :(
** Do any of you know of a visa agent or agents in the U.S.A.,etc. that YOU KNOW FOR A FACT could guarantee my getting a Z visa if I sent them the documents for this job that I want to start or for a new school/job? Or, what do you think of as was also suggested to me of just taking off for Thailand and getting a new teaching job? Or, do any of you know.....I know that this is A HUGE STRETCH!.....of any Chinese universities that need an experienced Western teacher NOW and would send me documents and fly me back to the U.S.A....I get the Z visa and they'll fly me back to China? * Or, is it possible for me or do you know about a university/school where I could get a teaching job in China ASAP..like I mentioned in one of the limited cases..and be able to get my Z visa here in the Philippines* Again, I would REALLY appreciate any helpful suggestions/comments/replies!! * Please reply ASAP!!
Thank you!!!!!!

Could you fly to HK, and try to receive Invitation letter from Chinese Uni to HK's address?
I think, HK Chinese Embassy will more likely issue Z, than Chinese Embassy in Manila, however that's questionable, too.
There's visa agent in HK Foreverbright, and you can seek more info with contact on web link:

Schools in China most likely won't pay for your return ticket to USA, before you finish your Contract.
I guess, your best bet would be try to reach closest Asian country as Vietnam or Indonesia, where visa restrictions are not that tough as in China.
Good luck!
Bin China mate, not worth the candle.
Get yourself a nice job in another country. Or just stay where you are.
Is there a reason you are so desperate to return to China?
LAR:
Hi Mike,
Yeah, a fellow American that I know here in Cebu also said that China is not worth it. I'm not desperate; it's just that I have a good feeling about the university, received positive comments about it from some Westerners that used to teach there and have gone to all this time and trouble to start the job. Uuuuuuuggghh!
Find a job in the Phils or scrape together enough money to fly back to the states. You need to be in America to process your Z visa. Don't listen to anything Chinese agents tell you.

The laws for getting a work visa in the Philippines are retarded, and unneccesarily complicated as a result of the lack of jobs for locals. Also, the pay is crap; he'd be making more money working part-time at McDonalds.
There are easier places to find work in Asia. Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia... Maybe you should look there.
For a Z visa you personally have to visit the Chinese embassy at your home country. That was my experience last year and I think by now it applies everywhere with respect to Z.
