Q: What do you think about overtime work?

It's acceptable a few times each month,If too often,Honestly,I hate It.

I used to work for big companies and things were in order, and no need to work overtime. I enjoyed a lot.

As for my current job,There is no pay If I work overtime,All I get is the commission.Salary+commission.

The working time is 5 days per week and 7.5 hours every day.but I usually work 6 days (like half month) and 9 hours or more due to my company is not big enough and a lot of things are just out of order.it's like you only need 1 hour to get something done If things are in order, but in my company, you need 2 hours or more time to get things done which is so annoying.

The pay is good tho, that's the main reason Why I am still working there.

at the very beginning,I thought it would be Improved through my hard work, but in fact,It seems not,

I am kinda lost now.

If you are consistently doing overtime (as it seems) you should be rewarded for it. If not with money, then maybe some free time at times where the company is less busy. If your boss doesn't appreciate your effort then try to avoid the overtime.

It could also be worth reading your employment contract. I've had some that specifically said overtime would not be rewarded, but at the same time had bosses that would give a day off here and there, outside the normal vacation bookkeeping.

In my current job, our boss was required us to stay overtime every day, just to show up our loyalty and face of hard work.

I work from 9am till 6pm, and he asked us to stay at least to 6.30 pm, to done our work properly. I am doing international trade, buying stuff from EU to be imported here. Send 3 email inquiry for price daily is my hardest work these days,  when i got order , so there is 2 emails more to get an PI and that's it. Why the hell have to overstay without be paid for it ?

Cut my time and instead of be with my son at least at evening for 1 hr before he go sleep, just to satisfy my boss, let he see me leaving later and " do more work "  ?

If there is really much more work, and will be paid well at least by the commision, than its ok, sometimes. But daily with no real reason ? No way.

"Free" and yet "voluntary" (but not so really voluntary) is otten an unspoken and yet expected thing in the culture around here.  It was prevalent in Japan when I was there and I often find it prevalent in various industries here in China.  It is noxious to some and yet there is no ready work-around in place.

I think there must be a target of work to be done rather than target of no. of hours sitting in the office..

One of the main reasons I hate the Chinese is all the unpaid overtime I did while the bosses did so much undertime. Want to know why China is poor and everything is poor quality? Because people are expected to work not for money or self interest, but out of undying admiration and respect for some drunk guy who's friends with the right bureaucrat.

i was asked to do 3 extra hours overtime work a week. because the pay was 140% hourly rate i accepted. Also, they know i am doing them a favour and according to a foreign colleague, this will give me leverage next semester.

In our company, I have experienced some try of our boss, to let us work over time. one of the way, to maintain this goal was : meetings. so all bored people and wishing to leave, have to listen to some manager and his useless speech about what they have done today and blah blah. here, most of meeting was carried out of work time, because work time is sheduled for work, not for meetings right ? so many times we have to cut of our meal time for 10-15 minutes and listen to blah blah ... the problem is, there is no paid overtime work here, I never accpetd why I have to come home 1hr later just to make my boss happy ...

My contracts always say 'no overtime unless it is with my agreement'. I've not done a minute's overtime in 8 years.

A:Weird jobs you say? China has plenty. The guys who work in bath houses and whose job it is to scrub guys down... that's got to suck.I've seen it. There will be a (usually fat) naked dude lying on a table, and the scrubber who is also near naked goes over him top to bottom with what looks like a scouring glove. They get right in there..lift the nuts, spread the cheeks and everything. God knows why anyone would pay for that but it seems they do. Then there are the eunuchs who became high-ranking public servants back in the day.Nowadays I don't think it's very common for them to be high-ranking, I think most just became wumaos - but a lot of them self castrated themselves to get the job.It must have been a hell of a decision to make...if you decide you'd prefer to be a plumber or rickshaw driver after a couple of years on the job there's no reversing the surgery. The people who stand in front of a shoe or clothing store and clap to attract customers- sometimes they will chant in unison - that's another job I always thought was bizarre. The supermarket staff whose job seems to be to stand in groups of three gossiping and blocking the aisles so you can't go down them, you have to turn around and go down the next aisle that probably has a sale on shampoo or expired tofu that day. The 'English Teachers' who can't communicate with the foreign teachers, or even their students in English but will tell anyone who listens how the foreign speaker is 'wrong'.Their jobs seem to be to unteach whatever English the kids are able to pick up.It's strange, but they do exist. If you're really looking for a great career though I suggest being the worthless lazy offspring of someone with good connections. Being stupid will help your prospects a lot. You'll be given a job with a decent salary, pension etc and all you need to do is play with your phone all day and be you. You'll never be asked to do anything or probably even show up at the office. In fact they'd probably prefer it if you just kept out of the way.      -- Stiggs
