Q: What do you think of pet clothes?

So many of my neighbourhood pets wear jackets and coats, but I just don't know what to think of it.

Do they need it for the cold though? I swear dogs at home never wear clothes and they're fine...

Accessories for toys, a bit like collecting clothes for a doll. It's not much harm done, but hum... shallow motivation. They are less common back home. I think very small dogs dissipate their body heat efficiently, so they might need clothes.

It looks stupid on most animals. I make my goldfish wear a suit and top hat though. It was a nightmare finding a goldfish sized monicle.

Result of a extremely narcissist society, "my dog is more important than beggars dying in the cold winter", let's waste money and resources on pets instead of fellow humans.

Like that cat of billionaire only eating top grade kobe beef (that most people can't ever dream to afford) I saw an article a few years ago.

Scandinavian:

doesn't feeding the pet send this same message ? I understand your point, but spending even 1 jiao on pet food and then walk past a beggar and give nothing....

The day I do that to my cat, I can only hope to find the clothes torn in pieces when I come back, with a few extra poops around for the message.

What do I think of pet clothes? They're cheap to feed and they don't poop on the carpet. B'dum cha!

It depends on the clothes really, like if you're going to dress it in something hideous, you have to think about what damage that will do to a dogs standing in other dogs eyes, they might just rather risk getting the sniffles than be humiliated in front of their peers in a fugly outfit.

Dogs in socks though - priceless!

Sometimes, it can be justified, like when a dog who is not adapted to the cold is brought to China (a chihuahua is suitable for a totally different climate than a Siberian husky). It would be cruel otherwise. When it's just dressing up your pets because you want to buy accessories for living beings treated as toys, particularly to deal with attachment issues to your own offspring... that's several kinds of messed up.
