Happy 1st wedding anniversary this month

Well on Sunday afternoon I spent an hour trying to make them. My success can be measured by the amount of broken zhongzi in the rice cooker amidst the boiling rice.
Today, I just returned from our Dragon Boat Festival outing at the Longfeng Wetlands and they have a place there called Guofu Manor at which we ate the traditional fare of boiled eggs, dried fish, seaweed, Chinese porridge and the famed zhongzi. These actually tasted a lot better and dipped in sugar they went down a lot better than the porridge. I don't mind eating one of them but doubt I could consume two at one sitting. Not bad as a desperation snack around Dragon Boat festival time I would say. I couldn't eat the ones we made Sunday. They were crap!
i love the ones with meat in them , i hate the ones with dates.
derek:
I didn't know there was a "meaty version". The date filled ones suck.

yeah i didn't know until this year. it was actually by accident. my gf got me them as a gift and i was gonna wait until she left to give them away but she heated one up and i smelled meat. i wish i knew how to order it.
Like crimo, I prefer meat zongzi. It's a pretty good breakfast or snack.
Glutinous rice wrapped in semi dried leaves - Mmmmm, I guess it's whatever tickles your fancy but I'm definitely not a fan!
Depends on the zongzi you choose, I like the one with meat and mung bean.
Some are crap, some are freakin delicious. Of course you never know if it will be good unless you have tried the shop before. I prefer them with the salty egg and some bbq'ed meat, and they can't be too dried out or they taste like dirt. One shop nearby that is popular for their snacks makes them perfectly, but many places around where I live fail at making them.
I am generally not a fan of glutinous rice. zongzi is an exception to this, a good one with some meat and duck egg, but will only eat one (or two) at a stime
Its not bad at all..it goes great with some meat though. It could be a good snack if you are in a rush somewhere...plus it's healthy for you! (!
He he, I said: "plus"!
