Besides the certificate of eligibility to get married, your passport (bring a couple of copies of the page with the photo of you, a copy of your visa on the passport, and a copy of the entry stamp.  One page per copy.  An also, you will need a "marriage photo", bring at least three just in case, a red background, and the faces of you two together (for marriage booklet for each), and about 10 yuan.  Fee is from 6 to 8 yuan.

And if the certificate of eligibility is in English, have it translated to Chinese by an approved translator, and notarized.

You need

1.  A certificate of chastity.  It must be signed by both your mother and family doctor.

2.  A certificate of fertility.  This can only be attained after being tested at a sperm bank but then turning down their offer of 35 bucks at the last minute.

3.  A certificate of heroism.  You need to travel to the south of China (or auz but the crocs are bigger there) and wrestle 10 leather-skins into the mud.

OR you could ask your embassy.

I concur with some of the above comments...get your head checked. If the psychiatrist says you're okay, keep getting another opinion until you find the one that says you're crazy. He/she will be right.

You need a title deed to a home, a title to a car, and a  generous bank statement.

Hey guys,

Don't you believe in love any more? From some answers I can see a lot of men have had bad experience with the Chinese women. One thing for sure, if you think they are that bad, wait till you see what we have in North America. The women in America in general are not better in any area!  I could say they are to the point they are not even attractive any more with their negative attitude.

All I have to say: Have a happy life and when the going gets tough, remember what got you together. Love is even greater than death.

Enjoy your Chinese queen man!

HappyExPat is right.

If you've been married previously, you will need to get a certificate of divorce, and you will probably need that notarized and translated as well. If not, you will have an easier time and spend less money.

Get your Affidavit of Single Status, and have it notarized at your local embassy/consulate/whatever. Once it's notarized, you will need a translation.

The translation can be done outside the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou. I have no idea what the Canadian consulate has, or where it is, but there are several reliable translators in the same building as the U.S. Consulate. It'll only be about 50 RMB to get your notarized document translated and stamped.

Many places will not require marriage photos because they'll make them for you. Otherwise, visit any local photo shop and get one photo taken with the both of you together. It's better to be safe than sorry, and this is China, so please go ahead and get those pictures just in case.

Checklist:

(if previously married) [   ] Certificate of Divorce

(if previously married) [   ] Notarization of Certificate of Divorce

(if previously married) [   ] Translation of Divorce Certificate

[   ] Affidavit of Single Status

[   ] Notarization of Affidavit of Single Status

[   ] Translation of Affidavit of Single Status

[   ] A few photos of you two together

also remember that there are some requirements to the picture, typically the photographer will know, ours has red background and we are wearing outfits that clash with the background.

Easier way to do not get lost with all the documents and avoiding unnecessary times back and forth in the offices: just ask your nearest Consulate or Embassy. They will help you out.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
