Q: What does sex with a Chinese girlfriend mean?
I met my new girlfriend through a mutual friend of ours. Our first date was pleasant but uneventful. She then had to go back to her job in another city. We kept in touch over the next few days and I mentioned I would like to see her again before I had to leave the country. (I was there on a work assignment but live abroad.) She came back on the Gaotie the next day, and we had sex. She initiated it. I then took the train to her city before heading to the airport, and we had sex again. She again initiated. We are both over 35 and divorced. She is not easy or anything. Just the opposite, especially in public. So what's it all mean? Where does the sex fit into all that? I read somewhere that having sex on a second date is a "show of faith," but for what? That she wants a permanent relationship now? That's not what she says. A relationship seems to scare her. Maybe it's just that I am a laowai? Her approach to our current relationship status seems to be the usual way of taking it slowly if not glacial, which is okay since I won't be able to go back for at least six months anyway. But I can imagine a something permanent down the line. So where do we go from here? What do I do or say now, and what should I not do or say? How do I interpret the usual vague and obtuse comments? And what the heck did the sex mean?

She's over 35 and divorced. She just wanted a bit and you being a foreigner leaving town was the perfect solution. Her chances of getting a bit from a Chinese bloke would be slim given her circumstances.

her shelf life is over in china, so disappointments is all she has to look forward to, so if things work out, fine, but she is not going to get her hopes up for you, when this never happens in china, only to be disappointed, it's pragmatic but it's reality in china.
