I think a lot of people ask this same question, because it is a very serious concern for many people. They want their own answer, not somebody elses. Also, the situation keeps changing constantly. I think, on this particular topic, we should be tolerant of the same question being asked repeatedly.

It was one of the reasons I left China last year. I believe there is a danger to being a foreigner in China if war breaks out. A danger to all foreigners, because of the mentality that if you are not Han Chinese, you are an enemy of China. We all saw the mindless nationalism against Japan last year. Extend that to every country.

XiJinPing has been ramping up China's military image and talking about the reversal of China's past "humiliation" like it is an excuse to dominate all foreign countries. It seems the only pride China can achieve is through aggression, not by, say... making China a good country to live in, or doing something that people admire.

Also note the thinly veiled threats against whoever intervenes in the Korean peninsula crisis. China "will not tolerate any country causing chaos in the region". Note how it doesn't point the finger at North Korea - the country making nuclear missile threats. Rather, it allows China to blame whoever tries to intervene.

Probably nothing. I have read just 2 days ago some experts explanations, including some north korean living in south korea and working in some govt place. to make it short, lightly translated :

1. China have send some signal to Kim, that they will no longer accept his escapades and they have also let pass some OSN embargoes , which they have strongly defended in past time, but last 2 years, they are more and more benevolent to OSN restriction against N.Korea.

2. China may use N.Korea as a bumper zone against possible attack from S.Korea and USA... I know sounds weird, but, imagine the situation when next happen...

3. China will ONLY help Kim defend N.Korea on theirs own territory, but they will not support NK with attacks on S.Korea.

4. As China have enough theirs own problems, like corruption and so on, they are not willing bother too much with NK. In their very deep interest is stability in asian region for their future grove, so that is the reason, why they try keep Kim back with his actions. They even call NK consul in China to "carpet" and gave him their "strong disagreement" with recent nuclear test.

5. This situation also give them a bit time to focus more on theirs other problem in South China sea and "theirs claims" and disputes with South-asian countries. This is why the use NK now as bumper zone, when any conflict happen, they no need keep active  army backups in north area, as they will have enough time to transfer army there.

Uuuuh, long story short huh angel

Anyway, We have keep our eye on every news and be ready to move, as other said, it may be dangerous for every foreigner here.

the best thing for china is to arrange a military coup in north korea and have the older brother take power, who is living in china anyway, and let cooler heads prevail, perhaps the younger brother will have an accident in the next year.

I don't think much will happen.  If North Korea starts getting attacked on their own land China may help aid them a bit. But I doubt China want's to get too involved due to it's large business ties with America.

China simply relies too heavily on US consumers to get involved in this matter too much if a war broke out and US joined forces with S. Korea.

Those of us in the Northeast would have to brace ourselves for the flood of refugees that doubtlessly come pouring in, but I have a real hard time believe that China would get involved. This isn't the 1950s. They'd have to much too lose.
