Q: What happens when you can have many wives?

https://www.euroweeklynews.com/3.0.15/news/on-euro-weekly-news/world-news/145343-group-of-teens-catch-rabies-after-having-sex-with-a-donkey

Religions that take on many wives create a shortage of available females for the younger men and the older men tell them that they are not worthy and are breaking the religious laws and kick them out if they complain about no females.

Solution, by a sex robot, or if your poor and live in Morocco, screw a donkey and get rabies.

I saw this if Africa 30 years ago and I thought the world would evolve a little bit so that I would never see this again.

I was wrong.

yes the fundamentalists Mormons do the same thing, that great book, " under the banner of heaven" was supposed to come out as a movie about this topic this year. they would kick out the young men for small infractions of rules to avoid having too many men and not enough wives for the elders.

I think you've ignored the fact that when these religions were written, humans were constantly at war - so there'd often be a large surplus of women to the fewer men left behind (alive). So, being fairly patriarchal, the society chose to make the rules that those guys left alive had to 'look after' the women who no longer had access to the men they lost in those wars.

Also, way back then, slavery was common... (no, not condoning it, but that's the facts, Jack!)

I only married one of them..legally   but got the 2 sisters and the 20+ daughter in the deal. way more than I expected.  I sure do get taken care of in a womanly way, but there is little wiggle room for being a crazy MALE idiot. Bossy ladies coming at me from all sides!!  and I love it most days. RELENTLESS!

There was the recent case of the Mormon in Canada. He was found guilty of bigamy.

As Shiining says above, it pretty much depends on the environment.

Women in Tibet, for example, tradiltionally marry brothers from the one family. All brothers marry the same woman because the land is harsh. Also something to do with inheritance. Cant recall that bit, but worth looking up.

There are also matriacal societies out there. Well worth a bing.

What man in his right mind would want to be nagged to death by a bunch of women he brought together.

ambivalentmace:

The worst part is the longer they live together, eventually the red river cycle every month becomes the same for all of them, so they are all moody at one time and no nookie from any one of them for the man. One week a month of no pleasure and nagging might make you crazy or send you to a brothel like Joseph Smith used to do 3 centuries ago.

A:Hmmm - I'm sure I answered this (and some other posts...). What you don't seem to get is that an older population is bad for a country... the expenses in looking after the elderly (welfare, hospitals, etc) start taking up more of the tax cake - a cake that's getting smaller because there are less people contributing to it (ie, workers). From an earth impact perspective - good! But from most other perspectives - bad. -- Shining_brow
