Q: What the hell is wrong with you?

I hate living in China, but Jesus, some of the stuff here.

Ok, if Localla made a thread like, "Are blacks less human", don't tell me you wouldn't all freak out. Or if she kept saying things like "Blacks are uncivilized", or "It is impossible for blacks to be civilized" or "Blacks cause most of the problems in the world today." or "Blacks will lead to the end of civilization" or "Blacks consider it acceptable to kill and rape babies." How would you react to that? Cuz I'll tell you, most of the stuff she says now isn't half that offensive.

But a foreigner makes a thread called, "Do you think your Chinese wife is less human."  and continually makes coments like those in the first paragraph, except about the Chinese, and you disect them, intellectually, like it was the most normal thing in the world. What the hell is your problem? When any Chinese person suggests you are anything less than white Jesus, you freak, but when a foreigner makes far more racist comments, every day, for months, on practically every thread no matter how irrelevant, you coddle him and say "sorry about the bad China day you've been having every day for three months."

Are you really all that stupid? What the hell is your problem?

Well the voices in my head say I have a lot of problems, but my ego makes me believe that most of the voices are liars.  So I'm sorry, I can't put my finger on what exactly is wrong with me at this moment, but I'll be more than happy to let you know as soon as I figure it out.

And thanks for your concern.

Kchur, has a great point.  so many of the questions and a great many of the comments here are really racist, degrading and insulting.   DaBen's reply, even if given in jest, gives us part of the reason why.

The thread from Crimino you're referring to got downvoted 11 times and was locked. It was an absolutely asinine question, and both the users on the site and the admin responded to that effect.

I'm not a fan of Crimino, but you're passing off as a douche insulting everyone here when in fact they downvoted his question.

Edit: I don't coddle Crimino, I downvote almost all his answers and questions. Just like I'm downvoting yours now.

If I was talking about one thread only, you'd have a point. I'm talking about practically every thread on this forum.

I think most of us have said something rude or stupid on here...well, some a lot more than others. I know I've said something once or twice that I probably shouldn't have. However, I know there are a lot of great people in China. I'm friends with some of them. It's those people that don't see any good at all that I have a problem with. Some of those questions, I read the answers but I didn't answer myself because I didn't know wtf to say to that. You're right, when it's an obvious troll like Localla, we can laugh and let it pass. But when someone has finally jumped off the deep end *cough crimo cough*, nothing happens. We get pissed and try to say something. Of course, why would he listen to a bunch of strangers on the internet? I don't know, I think we should ask the admin to do something about it.

I hate to say this, and I know it will get some of you pissed but the plain and simple truth is that almost all Caucasian people have never really experienced deep discrimination. Like a person who's never been bullied can't understand how humiliating it is.
I'm surprised at Crimo's posts lately considering he's African-American and should know exactly the bad sentiments his racist and over-generalized posts bring about.
Kchur has a point. I also can't believe some of the stuff said here about Chinese people. As if they're puppets in a social experiment and we're Big Brother.
And I'm not saying you guys are bad people. Infact I enjoy reading most of the Questions here. But when you have a bad China day, don't go overboard. No one likes being consistently insulted or criticized.

I agree and I disagree. Certainly, most Caucasians here have never experienced deep discrimination. However, for many, this is the first time they have come face to face with it (being called laowai, stared at, etc...). I wouldn't be surprised if the reason they react sometimes aggressively is exactly for that reason. Of course, that doesn't excuse them from being dicks about the type of racist comments they sometimes post here.

Well as for me, the doctor told me I was Schizophrenic (that explains the voices), with some psychosis, and some manic depressive tendency's (they call that bi polar now).

He did add that from the tests, I was threshold genuis, and was amazed I was not incarcerated or in an asylum.

I expalined that was due to the sealed  letters in many peoples hands, to be mailed upon my arrest, or going missing, or death implicating many politicians.

Even he had to laugh!

As for discrimination, I was married to a black lady for 13 years. I hung in the hood! You can only imagine the crap those hoodsters subjected me too.

It was all good, they didnt go too far, knowing I was armed and dangerous and would rather shoot them than look at them.

Its all about Respect!

Same deal in China. although gunless, I try to treat people like I want to be treated.

my comments come out of the belief that (in general) the environment here makes the people who are born here and who grew up here rude, deceitful and lacking regard for humanity.
i often and too many times use offensive language, that is bad and wrong on my part but that should not mean we cant debate about what is wrong here and why? and personally if your alter ego did ask those questions i would not find them racists. free speech deprives no one of power. i personally wouldnt find them offensive either. if you dont like what i say down vote it to hell with each and everyone of your alter egos. the bottom line is this i expect human beings to value the lives of human beings because we are all are born with the same capabilities. i dont believe in excuses

Yeah, I get the whole freedom of speech thing. This is the Internet after all, you can say whatever you want. But if you want to be taken seriously as an Intellectual then you have to be able to make out the line between honest criticisms and blatant impudence and slander. I like your honesty and free-thinking attitude in most of your posts but there loads of times you cross that red line. And then you're not so funny anymore. This is not a diss. I'm just saying.

Crimochina, I think you are a chick...and not a man.....I feel that.

I don't care if you are a girl or a man, black or white! I don't care! Offensive language? There is nothing you can say that will offend me. I may get pissed and reply, but its all good!

Opinions are like A holes, everyone has one!

I usually vote your posts up! You are an original, like me, God broke the mold when he made us, because God forbid there would be more of us walking up and down and going to and fro, all over the face of the earth!

Sometimes I vote your posts down!

Alot of people on here may not like you. Actually I like ya! I dont agree with ya, all the time, but its good to debate and hear a little english now and again!

I will be busy soon...get back to you guys later....sad

Hope Old-gunslinger won't name and LABLE  Kchur as "China apology"..american so much like to "lable" ppl....and it's really powerful when someone got "labled". this is why so many foreigners NOT DARE to speak their really feelings nowadays online...

Just keep in mind, people got all flaws (big mouth, backstap, etc), what we should understand is what should keep in private, what should keep in an open place. Besides so many Chinese English studiers maybe are "diving" here to study the language but you make them realise what a bad language they are learning .......Language always got the culture in it...

and I have to admit, sometimes I did reply 2-3 posts purposely (with unconscious)....but I dont lie, I dont incite, I dont follow ppl....I'm a forumer user for some time. Unless that forum is for professionals, all forums got various ppl...so...you can't give too much credit on "votes" at all...

See the members in my list they won't reply this thread at all...lol...Life/people are really "interesting" in many ways....

see you see you  (last week it was so free just:)

In my opinion, the problem is not that much the questions asked (even if they sometimes turned to be a bit offensive) or the answers given (even if they sometimes turned to be offensive too).
The problem lies much more on some underlying factors such as taking some people, facts, habits, ideas and turning them into a generalization.
If I take the example of Kchur "Is it impossible for Blacks to be civilized", one can answer yes/no, give his/her opinion on the reason why, but eventually whatever answer is given, it's just another generalization. It doesn't mean that all Blacks can be civilized, or that all Blacks cannot be civilized. It just means that according to one's experience, he/she may think like that. The truth is that maybe some can be civilized, some cannot.
Alike some Chinese may spit every 10 meters, some no. Some Chinese girls are gold-diggers, some other not. Some foreigners are morons, some other not.
For any sentence, in order to avoid generalization, you would need to provide statistics : 30% of foreigners are considered to be morons because they don't learn Chinese; 30% of Chinese are considered to  be morons because they don't know geography, etc.....
I personally tend to generalize for each answer I give or question I make, but it doesn't mean that after consideration all people are alike or what I describe is always true.
It's up to the people who make the questions and those who answer to understand that any question or answer is a bit subjective because of the underlying generalization it creates.
Moreover, I believe that we are not all English-mother tongue, therefore for some, like me, easy sentences are sometimes faster to write than more complex ones.

xinyuren:

I disagree. I think the problem is the questions (and answers). This is a public forum. As such it should be inclusive of all types of people and open to logical and relaxed communication. People come here to ask questions about life in China and I feel they shouldn't have to constantly feel intimidated, insulted or angered by the remarks posted. I would think we should welcome opinions by Chinese people (since all of our questions are China related) but honestly, if I were Chinese, I would not feel welcome or comfortable here. Good, healthy communication and debate cannot exist in the form of race baiting and course, unsophisticated speech. If we are the civilized western people we claim to be, surely we can express our thoughts in a way that doesn't alienate and offend those we are trying to reach. You can call it being PC. I call it being thoughtful and considerate of others, one of the hallmarks of civilization.
