My alarm currently plays Beatles - Here Comes The Sun
I listen to a lot of 1990ies popular music such as Nirvana, Offspring, Metallica, Guns 'n' Roses, most of which no one likes. I pretty much always have some tunes playing when I am walking the dog (although sometimes in early mornings I will go without music to enjoy the relative silence. If I go out alone during daytime, music or podcasts will be playing, when I am sitting at the computer there will typically be something with sound, can also be e.g. TV News.
If I am just at home sitting on the sofa and feel like music, it will just be radio from back home, can be any music playing.
We often have some piano music playing while falling asleep.
There's nothing better than some good old fashioned rock to lighten up the day.
Anything from before the 80's, for me. Except maybe KISS.
I also enjoy humorous/satirical French bands, such as the Fatal Picards.
And sometimes some mashups, like AC/DC's Thunderstruck mixed with the Ghostbusters theme (it fits perfectly), or many other kinds (Youtube has a surprisingly big scene dedicated to that stuff, it's insane).
I listen to music whenever I'm alone outside. Sometimes at home, too, but rarely.
I tend to listen to a lot of so-called "electronica" and psychedelic rock, quite a lot 60's-70's rock, stuffs from the 80's, and a bit of humorous French folk songs. I love artists using random stuffs as musical instruments. I can't possibly work without psychedelic music

I like violin and cello music, and most of Scandinavian's choices above. But my preference is for European (especially Norwegian) Metal.
In answer to my questions:
I spend at least an hour each day just listening to music.
I almost never play music as background noise as I find it hard to concentrate on other things. May be a bit retarded.
Very hard to find Chinese people with taste in music, let alone similar taste.
Actually, one of my male students surprised me recently by showing me his playlist which included Metallica - One, Nirvana - Teen Spirit, Guns n Roses - November Rain, and several other really good 90s tunes. I've also met a few Chinese girls who like Nightwish.

@Scandinavian:
In addition to the Scandinavian nations' excellent social equality, standard of education, political system, human decency, etc., you should be proud of their musical heritage!
Scandinavian:
May I suggest you check out Volbeat. Still a new band but good enough to be touring with Metallica.
It's not all just Abba and Aqua :)

That's list of my current 6M old ITunes. FrostWire and ITunes are up with login. I only have music accessories for Mac: IPod (with extra battery), Ultimate Ears Pro ear plugs and BOOM speaker.
Depends on my mood
I like everything from some Chinese soft stuff to Jimmy Barnes
although 80s Oz Rock would get the most play time on my pc
Music? Doesnt matter what type it is, I can never hear it over the construction.
I listen to a wide range of stuff (browsing my HD...LOL). Most of it not well known...
METAL : Prong, Helmet, Fudge Tunnel, Neurosis
OTHER 'ROCK' : Mr Bungle, Killing Joke, Infectious Grooves
INDUSTRIAL : Ministry, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Die Krupps, Godflesh
A lot of ELECTRONICA...
HIP HOP : Roots Manuva, New Flesh, Busdriver, Juice Aleem
OTHER : Tom Waits, Morphine, Dead Can Dance, The Residents
I was singer in metal bands back in the day...I have been producing and releasing electronic music for 10 years now...used to live from my music. Started in Detroit and then back in EU. Have released around 25 vinyl records...Google my user name if you want to hear it...but it would sound pretty mad to people that aren't used to this kind of music.
Like you, I often listen to music in a proper setting. I used to design listening rooms. Depending on my mood, I listen to lots of classical, classic rock, folk and some hip hop and pop. I'm a big jazz fan, too.
The good thing about being in China, and being told constantly "when in Rome" etc....... put the music up full blast and sod the neighbours .
Only joking. I use an ipod. I only plug it into a sound system when I get to a bar at the weekend.
