Q: What is the letter of release for

Can you go home after quitting a job and get a new visa or do you need the letter of release? What is the purpose, can you get another job.

If you leave a job correctly, by following the terms of your contract, to go to another job then there is no need to go home for another visa.

Basic process is this:

Resign

get release letter & cancellation receipt for current job

New employer applied for new FEC/Alien employment permit (they need release letter & cancellation receipt amongst other documents)

After new work permit is issued they then apply for new RP for you.

If you don't get the release letter then you can't get another work permit for the new job.

Hey anoy , why are you worried about your boss finding out about that you want to go to an english corner if you want to quit?

I hope you do quit. Because there will be a nice surprise waiting for you when you try to leave the country.

Basically, follow the contract and you will have less to worry about

It basically is as Hotwater told you, but I must add  a small additional information.  You have 10 days after resigning to visit Work Bureau and PSB with documents of new employer to transfer your FEC, work permit resident permit from old employer to new one without having to apply for new ones.

Hotwater:

Interesting point.  I've recently changed (non-teaching) jobs and failed to that timetable. Here's what I did......

Resigned mid-July, 1 months notice

finished old job Mid-August

had 2 weeks holiday/break!

Started new job 1st September

New company applied for new work permit in 1st week, received mid-September.

Applied for new RP week later.....got sent away as half the documents, including application form, were wrong. The HR lady had followed the instructions on the Shunde government website & downloaded the forms from there! They were out of date......

I was supposed to go back on 8th October after the National holiday but left it two more weeks as I had to travel with work & needed my passport.

Finally handed completed forms in 2 weeks back. My new RP will be ready next Monday!

Fortunately for me my current RP was still valid till July 2015 so I wasn't in a rush & my old company told me they wouldn't try to get it cancelled!
