When there is a crisis or conflict in the world (ie, Syria, Ukraine, MH370) what news media source do you think is most credible and why? I have come to my personal conclusion that they are all biased towards the country from where they originate so I use the internet to find individual snips of information to see if they fit with any of the stories being spun by mainstream media. Usually the main news cannot be hidden, but as we say, "The devil is in the details".
My concern is that if the media can be manipulated by spin doctors the public will never know the entire truth, but just various versions of it. In China they block web sites from citizens from seeing embarrassing things, but now a new law in America called CISPA (passed by the House and awaiting a Senate vote) will let a handful of political appointees DELETE any web site or post they do not feel is "appropriate" for viewing by citizens (or anyone else). VPNs will be useless because the site, whether of American origin or not, will be deleted - not just blocked. So then, where will we be able to get unbiased news or photos that individuals decide to "leak" to the world if CISPA passes?
At first, I assumed "appropriate" would mean child porn, hate sites, etc. but if you think back to the "DO NOT CALL" legislation to prevent unsolicited telemarketing, the bastards exempted themselves when the law was passed, so we continue to get dozens of calls in the west asking to contribute money to various candidates. So, what if "appropriate" also means deleting internet information about war crimes, human rights violations, or "leaks" or whistleblowers? Was it only coincidence that this new CISPA law was proposed AFTER the Wikileaks and Bradley Manning bombshells?
I think it is best you read many and figure out what you think happened.
You don't even make any effort at trolling with discretion. No wonder you only get half a buck every time.

Can't handle an intelligent debate? You'd rather talk about STDs or the price of a massage with a "happy ending" in Harbin?
RiriRiri:
At least it would be related to this site's focus, as opposed to your very very repetitive trolls about the USA.
Ask your manager if he would allow you to talk about something else. I mean, not to diminish the satisfaction you might get at your job, but it's not even like you have any perceptible use.
expatlife26:
Keep it to yourself riri. No time2lose is doing a great job at Thought Management. Hes no Grumpy (RIP sweet Grumpy) but hes really driving home our agenda.
The Leader is proud Of you!
I thought this was a Chinese forum.
Meh. Anyone know how I can catch an STD in Harbin?
RiriRiri:
Try hotpsrings or naked baths in winter. I'm sure they can get you something.
Hulk:
How much did your HIV cost? I heard it costs an arm and a leg... and a life.
Scandinavian:
isn't it only in undeveloped countries people die from HIV... or are stigmatized ?
You are a great job notime2lose!! Keep up the good work!
You can read things from several respected sources, from the various sides of the story, and make your own opinion. Say, if I want to learn a bit about Centre Afrique, I would read "Jeune Afrique", "Le Monde", "BBC", and "China Daily", for example.
I can't help but think of Jack Nicholson's speach in "A Few Good Men"
TRUTH, YOU CAN"T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!! HeHe Classic.
Really I think the question is who's truth do you want. Politicians, media, and conspiracy theorist will tell you what they spew is the truth. People will gravitate to the version of the truth that supports their beliefs, validates their morals, allows them to save face, etc.
We are on this very old planet for a very short time. As I grow older I find myself not as willing to seek out and fight injustice. It seems that injustice is all around. I think my time is better spent on focusing how I live my life and not on how others live their lives.
as an american i find american press to be hard left and hard right with no moderation whatsoever, it is sad that i have to read british news web sites to get the truth of whats happening in america without a bias. i have no idea what you could read or watch in china for truth, this is lord of the rings fantasy here.

in the 80's serving in africa, the bbc was my only news source, they usually kept the comments short and usually gave the prevailing argument for both sides but did not tell me what to believe. since it was the only news i could get sometimes in a war zone, im afraid i might have a bias toward their favor, i lean more toward the british newspapers web sites than the bbc, but 30 years ago, a short wave radio and the bbc was my 5 minutes of sanity 5am and 5pm, hopefully africa has better news services now.
