Q: What noises do animals make for Chinese?

Might sound like a stupid question (and might very well be), but does a dog go 'woof' in Chinese? Or do they say something else?

Does the cow go 'moo' or 'mer'.

I'm almost positive there are differences...

I do have no idea, but I swear to you that as soon as I master Mandarin, plus animal languages, I will ask them that question for you and post their answer here !.  frown

I typed "Mandarin animal sounds" into Google, and this was the first link.

Dogs don't bark "woof," they go "wang." This was pointed out to me by a few Chinese.

Best way, go out drinking with a bunch of Chinese and once everyone is good and sauced then bring up this question.  The sounds are different, but I don't remember them enough to be able to type them.

Or maybe I just got a guy who really didn't know what the basic animal sounds were and was just making stuff up.... either way I laughed my ass off (mostly because he was get into it and try to act out the animal at the same time).
