When they make badly conceived, poorly executed changes; then expect the outcome to be positive.
When nearly the entire class ignores me and most of them are talking to each other. Then I slam my hand on the podium to get them to be quiet. It still has an effect, although it only makes them pay attention for a few moments. No worries, I only have 2 weeks or so of regular classes before I start giving finals. I think it will be a group project.
When, having waded through one huge pile of pointless bureaucracy handed to me by various local governmental bodies, another one ends up in my in tray shortly after!
For me it comes from the staring. I have refrained from smacking anyone as of yet, but I have gotten in their 'face' and forced them to back down.
99% of the time they actually do not mean anything bad by it, they are just simple-minded peasants and in the village the element of entertainment comes from observing the current 'public play' ongoing in the village centre.
Thus, they have been conditioned through 5000 years to stare at/observe anything out of the ordinary.
