Q: What real bands are there in China?

You know, the kind where they play their own instruments and write their own music...

Anything worth listening to?

There are quite a few bands in China, sadly there are not many venues to see them.

Most of the Chinese bands of note are based out of Beijing, which has a better live music scene, but Shanghai has a small but growing scene.

There are also quite a few bands made of expats and expat/local mixes.

It depends on what kind of music you like.

My personal favorite Chinese band is called "Queen Sea Big Shark" - imagine if there was a band from China during the early 80's and you'll have a good idea of what they are like.

Here is a link to Rock In China - http://wiki.rockinchina.com/w/Main_Page - it has listings of Chinese and foreign bands and listings of shows, etc.  A good resource to see who's who and what's what.

Looks like a good start. Will check it out! -_-

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
