Q: What is Sanya like for living?

I have never been to this city in Hainan but just got a job offer there so I'm wondering how's life for somebody who is living there. Read a lot about it but mostly about all the tourism options, most times I find that the tourist version of a city is different than the "living" version of it.

I have been there as a tourist a few times, but I do love the sea and swimming, so I do like it.  I have the feeling it may be an expensive place to live.  Hotels and restaurants are not cheap.

Thank you HappyExPat, that is actually my big concern. Where I am now I really do not need to spend money so I can really save almost my whole salary every month and still go out, have fun and enjoy life without actually caring of how much I spend.

I would not discart it right off the bat. It would depend on the offer you get, and if it includes an apartment, utilities, maybe eating at the school cafeteria when open, etc it could allow you still to save. And, you will be living bin the warmest place in China. Do a small finger walking, and see everything before deciding. Good luck to you.

I've been there too, year 2011, but i find things are much cheaper than shanghai, first  is the taxi, the starting price for taxi is only 5rmb! I heard now it's a little higher, like 8rmb, but still so cheap, the starting price in shanghai is 14rmb, at night is 18rmb!

Fruits are amazing there, mango is my favorite! a thousand times better than shanghai ones! You can get fresh fruit juice only 5rmb,7rmb, 10rmb .  a big coconut is only 5rmb.  There are  lot of fresh yummy seafood too. Oysters are amazing ! One raw oysters with ice only 1rmb!  If you don't wanna raw ones, then 2 rmb each.

A lot of Russian there, so even the menu in the restaurant is in russian, english , chinese. A lot of Chinese speak Russian too.

The sea is pretty, it's so much fun to swim, surf.... but in the evening, you will see a lot of cigarette butts  floating back to the shore. That is not so pretty...

The sun is very big, you may get burned really bad.

Good luck and enjoy!P>
