Breathing, cub, drinking liquids, cub, people, cub, places, cub, food, walking, driving, cub, teaching, cub, banking, cub, investing, cub, drugs, cub, big cities, cub, medium-sized cities, cub, small cities, cub, towns, cub, villages, cub, and most importantly, spend as little time as possible on these forums...and cub.

Seriously though, I don't avoid anything. Have to die someday, might as well enjoy life and regret nothing. Except cub.

Warning: Don't read on if you have a full stomach.

Places and people who use places like this.

And people like these, both sexes included. The younger the guy the better, obviously, better looking 'face' for the girl (cover up the motives).

Jesus, that photo should come with trigger warnings. I have PTSD related to Chinese public bathrooms.

Have you seen the movie "Trainspotting"? I can tell you that back in 2005 I found the real one, in Shantou. And I had REALLY no choice.

Ewan McGregor did a good job playing the heroin junkie. From the worst toilet in Scotland in a movie to experiencing the real thing in china, the "privilege" of  explorers, hahaha. China expat's motto ---  whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, hopefully.

I avoid trying to make sense of it. Especially the roads. Been on my ebike a lot this week and I am still amazed. The stupidity of road users here.... Wow. Ha ha.. Keep right keep right... Nope that does not work. Nor does left nor middle. Honestly, put two guys on a mile wide empty road here and they would still have to break sharply and end up front wheel to front wheel. Its as if there is a gravitational force at work.

avoiding public toilets is probably a good idea, if you are in a run down area.

other than that, I suggest you look for and find some things that you can embrace.

Things like the Chinese people's amazing family ties. The way they are all in it TOGETHER.

taking a while to think of something else to "embrace"

the fast trains.

the vastness and beauty of the country, if you can get out of the concrete for a day or 2.

prompt and inexpensive delivery of goods bought on-line.

extreme variety of food, some may disagree, but with iron guts, you can try an extensive variety of nourishment.

There are many things to avoid, drinking straight from the tap, thinking that "true" selfless friendship exists in China, answering dumb questions, renting a place with garden/terrace that you can't use 350 days per year, being nice to people, accepting rude behaviours in the name of cultural differences, ...

And things that you must do, learning the language of course, becoming a cold hearted prick, accepting that outdoor activities are not an option most of the time, only befriend Chinese who already speak fluent English because others only want free language lessons, ...

Here you go, I'm long done with "being nice" to people who only want to take advantage of my friendliness.

i was told in a noisy backstreet restaurant "if I dont like the noise go to an expensive place." despite having got there before them and being halfway through the food with my companion.

so if you want to avoid uneducated peasant ASSHOLES in China dont go to backstreet restaurants.
