Q: What is the strangest thing you have witnessed since you have been in China?

I have to admit that the things people carry on scooters just freak me out; everything from doors to propane gas containers to plate glass across their knees to four people riding behind the driver.

How about you?

The strangest thing?  The length that SOME people will go to for money.  Nothing is sacred, nothing is immoral.  In their minds, the only thing they do wrong is get caught.  Other than that, all is fair.

An albino Chinese guy. It was at night, and I didn't really get a look at his face, but his skin was very pale and his hair was a strange yellow color. I'm staying in a small city, and I didn't expect to see that at all. Even though it was strange, it was super cool, I wish I could have said hello but I'm too shy.

Strangest thing I saw was a head on "collision" between two motorcycles. One was going "north" the other "south" and they were headed straight for each other. Neitehr one turned aside, though they were clearly staring at each other. They did however slow down to a crawl.
Finally they bumped (touched?) front wheel to front wheel. The microsecond contact was made, both men flew into a rage yelling at each other. Then, they got on their bikes and continued their journey.
Surreal.

During my years in China, I have seen many odd things, but the one that topple all of them off was the time an evindently drunk man dragged a woman by the hair out of the building, and proceed to beat the living delights out of her, even kicked her and everyone stood around on a circle just watching him work on her.  Also two traffic cops and one military man.  No one intervined, and after almost 30 minutes she waas left laying on the sidewalk bleeding out.
That evening I could not eat dinner, kept on thinking of her.  But it was a "family business" as one bystander mention to me.

GuilinRaf:

I was pulled off a man once who was beating a girl. As my friends explained to me, he is her husbadn or boyfriend and I would only make things worse for her later. If I kick his butt or he kicks mine, it wont matter since he will then beat her for my interference once they are alone.

2 women fighting after a scooter accident. but here is the funny part. they were fighting each other swinging and connecting (unlike the males). then they would argue , then they hugged, then they argued then started swinging at each other again. by this time i had gotten off the bus and was sitting with a local watching the boxing match. the fight lasted 3 rounds of heavy swinging , 4 bouts of argueing, 2 hugs (yes they hugged twice) and one mirror tossed at the other

GuilinRaf:

Now THAT is wierd! Hitting and hugging? I thought that only happened in the D/s community...:-P

I lived in a really small town for a year and was riding home late at night when I drove past a tall young Chinese guy throwing this girl out of a taxi by her hair!

Against my girlfriend’s advice I turned back and got involved.

I’m not at all a violent person but aggresively grabbed this guy’s hand suggesting he try do the same to me. He started panicking fell backwards and started shouting ''No no no''... his ''gf'' then got up, ran towards me and started hitting my arm!!!

In the midst of the confusion the taxi driver drove off and I just stood there with this young girl ''hitting'' me and this young Chinese guy lying on the floor covering his face....it was the early hours of the morning and it was eerily quiet… awkwardly got back on my bike and rode off.....since then I haven’t gotten involved in any 'Chinese domestic disputes' as it was without a doubt the weirdest 10 minutes of my life.

Jona, I think the lady was hitting you because if she hadnt tried to help her partner, then she would have copped a smack later on.

its always a weird feeling when  it comes to helping ppl in need in this country....damned if you do, damned if you dont.

It’s not the first time I’ve seen this in China but yesterday while walking home (and I live in the CBD of Beijing) I walked a few paces behind a very attractive Chinese lady (the kind that could be on a cover of a magazine).

In her long dark brown leather boots and Gucci bag she really gave an image of class and finesse but then suddenly cleared her throat (it sounded like my uncle Pete) and then spat it out on the pavement like a true sailor.

I don’t mean to discredit China/anyone when I say this but it always makes me dumbstruck when I see such contrast – perhaps its what makes living in China interesting?
