Q: what translator do you use for your phone in China?

my fricken iphone can't be unlocked because I have the lastest IOS, so I bought an android 3D phone. I spent all day trying to do download a movie and ringtones, still stumped. These phones are smarter than me. Maybe if I get some sleep my brain will reboot and I'll master the phone before it gets embedded in a wall. I'd like to put a GPS and translator on it, so wondering what app you use.

I have two Chinese-English dictionaries on my Ipod. I mostly use Pleco, which is good if you know the pinyin for a word. Sometimes I use DianHua, and it tends to be better at translating English words. Both of them are for individual words, not sentences.

I use a program called "Better translator"  It uses both Google & Bing to do the translation at the same time.  This is useful because a lot of times access to the google translator, is really slow or blocked.

Download the Google Translate app.  It's free and works like a charm, at least on my iphone.
You can even have someone speak Chinese into the phone and it will translate it.  I don't know how I survived before.

Does it need a net connection? I steer clear of the ones that do, because I don't always have access.

Unfortunatly, yes it does need a connection. If you have a data plan on your cell you will be fine.

I use Hanping on my android phone. It was free to download and is okay for Chinese and English words (not brilliant, but okay).
