In the park yesterday and was once again surprised at how uncommon it is to see frisbees. I always see people with those tombola things or whatever they're called. Two sticks with a string in the middle and a big rubber thing you spin on the string and throw in the air. Actually saw five people practising them yesterday. I'm sure frisbees would be big here if marketed right. Certain there are plenty of foods that would find a spot here if given the chance too.
I want to change my answer because when I was typing, I heard my neighbors screaming and shouting.... So wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a device, some magical tool that can deter and fix bad and rude people... So I, I would market guns for personal and recreational use... Guns is my answer..
mArtiAn:
I'd rather a machine that fixed bad language. It'd be a whole lot nicer hearing the woman opposite screaming at her kid "I'M PROUD OF YOU YOU LITTLE ANGEL!! NOW DO YOUR HOMEWORK OR I'M GOING TO KISS YOU IN THE FACE!!"
Vyborg:
Guns would solve many problems but not the one I'm interested in. I would want an anti-noise loudspeaker, or a noise-eliminator, or a silence-generator. O, well, maybe a silencer and those guns would do the trick after all.
Lice free hookers. Walking lessons. Notes bigger than 100rmb. A robot that electrocutes people spitting near me. Oh so many things...
I have thought about this a number of times and it all boils back to safety and education so teaching people to drive well and first aid and alike would be a huge market if any Chinese government took the well being of it's people seriously and it would clean up if it fined offenders
mArtiAn:
First aid would probably tie in nicely with my frisbee idea.
now for the smart ass answer, logic and common sence
It's easy to make money here. No need to import anything unique. Chinese don't have the taste for different things. Just sell some of the same products or services that are offered in the current marketplace. Just do so with excellent customer service, honesty and respect for quality. Keep your shop clean, stylish, and convenient. Have a website that is truly helpful and not just a billboard of ads. So few businesses offer these things that you won't have any competition
mArtiAn:
Actually it's true, my wife does international trade and she doesn't cut any corners, only supplies ethically such things as she would use inside her own home and covers all expenses when there is a mistake rather than run for cover. Only been at it for about two years but already she's getting a great reputation.
1) Coin-operated street parking meters. 2) Tow truck fleet at the ready to remove expired-time parked vehicles. 3) An impound lot to store the illegally parked vehicles to which the owners must venture on their knees backwards in order to retrieve their precious SUVs, Beemers, Bentleys and Benz's after paying a HUGE fine to me and my friends in the local government.with whom I am in cahoots. I get 60% for doing all the work and City Hall gets 40% letting me do all the work.
I'd need about a couple o' million USD to get the biz off the ground, another couple 100 thousand in a red envelop to convince City Hall that the endeavor would ultimately pay off and make them a whole lotta money in the mid-to-long term.
It's a win-win situation. A privatized public service which City Hall could then crow about as we solved the abysmal parking problem in my little 2nd-tier city on the coast.
I got the business plan. Now just gotta raise the venture capital. Who wants in?
andy74rc:
The owners of the SUVs, Beemers and such are already friends and in business with the City Hall way before you give it a try.
bill8899:
... and they would cut you out of the business as soon as it's convenient.
Red_Fox:
Dang. I forgot about that. Oh, well. Back to the drawing board...
A mobile, state of the art, coffee trolley that sold good coffee and great, fresh sandwiches.
Given that changing habits in China is challenging, I just can't accept they wouldn't come across to a real sandwich in lieu of the slop they currently wolf down at lunchtime.
An electromagnetic pulse gun that can fry vehicle electronics. Should stop some of the horn honking anyway.
Red_Fox:
I'm in. You got the money? I got the time. And let's bring Flash Gordon into the cabal.
Horn-honking is pointless, without any purpose other than to make the driver feel he/she has a bigger and louder... horn. No one pays attention to the honking, anyway, on the road at least. A public nuisance, a disturbing-the-peace misdemeanor.
Wish the Chinese auto industry would disable all claxons on the cars they sell. Twould cut down on the noise pollution.
wuweizea:
Yep, in America the first question when buying a new car....how fast is it? In China the first question...how loud is the horn?
Skoal. They seem to already luv spitting & luv tobacco. soooo, put the two together !
on a side note,, I really think the throat-clearing noise (is that what it is?) and the spitting are waaaaay bizarre! how did they come up with that ?? have u ever been to another country where they do that ? I know I am a snob, but that behavior just seems to shout 'low-class'.
Emerging from the drawing board...
A taco stand!
No! A thousand taco stands! With red-hot jalapeno and poblano peppers. Sichuan peppers, too! Fast food a la chinoise! Minced pork instead of beef. Cabbage instead of lettuce. Tortillas made with dumpling flour. (Beats instant noodles, right?)
Make a fortune! Who wants in? Andy? Bill? Royce?
Robk:
Actually, I have found that Chinese absolutely love Mexican food...
It's similar to Chinese food but with that extra spice and zest.... they love it!
That's why KFC makes a killing with their so-so burritos and tacos... someone more hardcore into the Mexican food would own this joint.
wuweizea:
God I miss good Mexican food, being from California I am spoiled I guess. They have one place here in Hangzhou that is actually very good. I too have found everyone here I talk too seems to like Mexican food. Not sure why there are not more restaurants catering to this. Too expensive to buy avacado I guess.....
