I ve been watching "The Americans". About soviet agents trained to pose as an American family. The plots are convoluted but logical and not hard to follow. The show is really good at building tension.
expatlife26:
Agree I watched the first season I thought it was pretty good. Need to find the second series.
Even my russian friends like it!
mattsm84:
That show is so good. And the home stuff is even better than the spy stuff.
zack1:
What a great TV. watched 1st, 2nd now going for 3rd Season all within a month.
How did i miss this one its a 2012 show for heaven sake. Now Im tempted to ask if you have other TV suggestions LOL
i watched all 7 seasons of the mentalists this summer, not bad.
i dont care for writers pushing agendas like broke girls, who needs a man, or mr robot, lets show gay sex on show 3 so everybody can think being gay is cool and normal, or how they never show smoking anymore because it's disgusting, so if there is an agenda, i move on to something else.
this show "the knick" and "escape to the continent" were not too bad and "doc martin".
to my surprise after diving into torrents, british tv is actually better than american tv, and the yanks seemed to copy the brits shows about 5 years after production. when they copied "shameless", they did not bother to even change character names.
ambivalentmace:
forgot "the woodsmen", surviving in tree houses in northeast washington and north west idaho on a vast wildlife forest, living off the land.
Shining_brow:
Yeah, I was going to mention Shameless... true, didn't change the names, but certainly changed some personalities and plots!!! I think the UK is grittier and more thought-provokings - esp with Tony (the cop) very different role! And Karen... And Yvonne (Kash's store owner) being portrayed as a lot more relaxed!
I've just finised UK S02, and into US S03
I am really liking "Banshee " right now. If you havent heard of it, its about an ex con who poses as a town sheriff. The usual boobs and guns show but i appreciate it. It just kinda makes sense. There isnt a lot of huge " Why the hell would anyone do that?" moments Or " yeah everything would need to go perfectly right and it still wouldnt ever work" plans. Plus i appteciate how no one is a kung fu star who never gets hurt. Like Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Even the meaningless fights are brutal for everyone.
But i usually keep up to date on what i wanna watch and there isnt much new at the moment.
The dude that created sons of anarchy has a new show starting in a few weeks called the bastard executioner and I am looking forward to that.

I just started game of thrones after letting it sit for months on my itunes, almost done with the first season.
I'm not a huge fantasy fan but it's a pretty good show. Well written, lot going on etc.
Kinda reminds me of sopranos which is probably my favorite show or one of them at least, so even though its not really my genre im still getting into it. Definitely recommend.
wagon:
I finally broke down and started watching over the summer. It's not bad and the wife loves it so we've downloaded 4 seasons. I hope the show continues on its path and doesn't go off the rails.
orange is the new black season 3
wayward pines season 1
bloodline season 1
Izombie season 1
7 deadly sins
sense 8 season 1
12 monkeys
The librarians
the last man on earth season 1
daredevil season 1
powers season 1
Garbo:
I really liked Sense 8 and all those other shows you listed. I Zombie was really fun.
Shining_brow:
What the...??? You got 4 thumbs down for this list???
Why? Just cos someone doesn't like your taste in TV shows? (granted, neither do I, but I'm not going to downvote it!)
mattsm84:
I like that Last Man on Earth isn't afraid to make Tandy just the worst person.
another good tv series and very funny
wet hot American summer
I had a week off but my wife had to work so I took a staycation and binge-watched some tv series.
The Following with Kevin Bacon was good (3 seasons).
Dexter was ok but it looks like the ending was thrown together at the last minute.
Person of Interest also ok.
Scorpion is better than nothing
Strike Back is a pretty good action series
X Files....watching it again. Better the second time and this time I have noticed lots of cameos and careers beginning for some characters.
Hannibal is weird but good. Spooky soundtrack is a winner
The wife is watching:
Neighbors (New Jersey family living in a gated community with Aliens who all have famous sports star names - some obvious analogy to my life here)
she loves Arrested Development (and gets the comedy)
has just discovered That 70's show and Raising Hope (a bit funny).
iWolf:
Yeah, I agree but she likes it so I grin and bear it. She started on Community College but thankfully got bored with it after a few episodes. I'm hoping Neighbors will go the same way
iWolf:
Maybe I have the name wrong because it was about a bunch of losers returning to a community college. I failed to take much notice of it after the first episode and did my best to purge it from my memory.
Shining_brow:
In that case, yes, probably the same.
it was extremely tongue in cheek, and I liked it (once I got what it was really about.. surrealism) - though I admit to not liking Chevy Chase' character.
But, sometimes I like good quirky humour!
Rick and Morty, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
mattsm84:
Up vote for Rick and Morty. And that's the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay the news goes.
Cool, thanks guys, lots of cool new shows to watch..
Game of Thrones, for series that are currently airing.
But my favourite TV series of all times remains Stargate SG1, 10 seasons of pure greatness and craziness, I could talk about it for hours if there are other fans here.
Shining_brow:
Except cliched and why the hell can't anybody actually ever die? For good??? (I mean the main actors, not the red shirts)
And why oh why is 20th century arms the only thing they ever use? Getting ammunition must be a bitch when you're stuck on some remote planet!!!
RandomGuy:
Shining -> Well, Stargate never took itself seriously, the show was always presented as humorous and casual science-fiction.
It's a typical good vs evil narrative where the heroes never die (unless the actor wants to leave the cast).
The show is full of recurring jokes and the bad guys are so dumb that you wonder how they came to be that powerful in the first place.
Some episodes like Wormhole X-treme are openly self-parodic and mocking the show for what it is.
In the documentary "Behind the Stargate" the producers openly admitted that they never intended the show to target science-fiction nerds for audience, it's made for people who don't ask why but like to see cool stuff in space and gunfights.
This is why people love it, why it lasted longer than any other science-fiction show in the US and only second to Doctor Who worldwide.
People who want serious science fiction can go to watch something else, but not Stargate.
Actually, they tried to make a serious Stargate with the third show Stargate: Universe, it was a big failure and lasted only 2 seasons, the regular fanbase had found no interest in it.
Shining_brow:
Ah! Explains a lot!!
ST:TNG ran for a while, and didn't have quite the same issues (reality) as SG: Still rather good vs bad though.
homeland
and trying to think of another one.. but there really isn't one... few old ones that I do watch but no good new ones
2 and a half men maybe....but never know when it is on
House of Cards...I get a semi every time I envision a high ranking party member here watching this show and believing it all.....
I've just been going through Shameless - both US and UK (and preferring the UK, naturally.. but I do admit, the US isn't too bad!! Lots of nudity, smoking, drugs, homosexuality... and they're not pulling too many punches with any of it! This is 'reality' TV!!!)
Also, Killjoys for some sci-fi. I started on Dark Matter, but finding that everyone is actually nice and goody-goody annoys me! I mean, crap, the Brits had moral questionability in sci-fi more than 30 years ago (Blakes 7 w Avon - anyone?)
Also, watching Dominion (again, too 'clean' for my liking, but alright (just)))
Extant
Defiance
Im still waiting for The Blacklist Season 3 in September
True detective is pretty boss.
Also, impractical jokers is bloody good for a laugh
Karma101:
yeah, during my last visit home... I couldn't stop watching the Impractical jokers...awesome!!
mattsm84:
True detective is great if you love the California Hi-Way system.
what is that "Betty White" old folks comedy thing ...I like that when it appears.... funny old folks
Ray Donovan is dark and intriguing
