I'm inside, in the comfort of the air-conditioner, so I'm thinking what to watch/download. I have some 20 keeper flicks, and I usually search FrostWire by the year for new movies. I asked my students, but they like only cartoons, so let see, what I've missed.
My keepers: Godfather1,2; The Shawshank; The Good, The Bad & The Ugly; The Gatekeepers; Munich (Mossad); The Good Shepherd; The Spy Game; The Russia House; Three Days of Condor; Leon; The Goodfellas; Casino; Heat; Carlito's Way; Pulp Fiction; The Usual Suspects; The French Connection 1,2; Snatch; Fracture; Man on Fire; Citizenfour ('Up-yours'); The Imitation Game; The Silence of the Lamb; One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest;....I have on temp. hold Lone Survivor; In The Name of Father (IRA); Enemy of the State; Body of Lies; Killer Elite;.... I need some romantic stuff, like C. Goretta 'La dentelliere' and similar.

Firstly, I suggest you buy yourself a projector... and preferably 3D. I went BenQ W1070. It's only about the size of a wide shoebox, and lighter than a pair of boots - so you can take it with you when you move around (or go back home). Price is about 5000RMB - but it should be with you for quite a few years (so, in my mind, very much worth it!) Don't need the screen, a nice white wall will do the job well enough. And also, a decent audio system (home theatre, or just gaming system from the pc). Make sure it has good base! (hearing GoT's theme with a good base out of 6-surround sound speakers is great!! )
If you get that set-up, then the Hobbit movies look awesome (visually - although perhaps not the actual movie... talking about the last one..!)
And gaming can be great (if you're into it)... 3D on a 3mx2m wall with surround sound!!! (I'm keeping myself off such things until my dissertation is finished!)
While movies are good, don't forget tv series!
As for what you should watch... all depends on taste! My keepers are rare... LotR etc, and other stuff on my other external HDD...

Not too much effort on my part to watch movies. I'm not that kind of a buff. When I'm in the lazy mood (depends on the Moon cycle), then I just rotate from 'pillow to pillow'.
I only have one goose feather pillow.
My Mac has lousy internal speaker, and I'm downloading it (for free, of course) over the FW.
I bought Ultimate Ears Boom speaker a month after I got this Mac. It's connected with puter over Bluetooth, so sound when I-tunes or movies is pretty good and loud.
Internal speaker on Mac Book Pro is shame, comparable to previous Macs (G4, and early Pro models).
If I'd have to buy projector to watch movies, I'd rather became marathon runner or pick-up-wild-blueberries-and-mushrooms from-the-forest guy.
Stiggs:
I've been thinking I'd really like to buy a projector, but don't you need to replace the bulb every 30 movies or so? I heard they are expensive.
Shining_brow:
Stiggs - 30 movies would be only 45-60 hours or so... which is totally crap!
Benq says it should last about 5000 hours! http://www.cnet.com/products/benq-w1070/
What are your keeper flicks? If people know what you like it's easier to recommend something similar.
It's been awhile since I watched something that really impressed me, but Road to Paloma is a flick I did enjoy. It's quite recent, like 2014.
icnif77:
'Road to Paloma' is on download, and I updated thread with 'keepers', but I wanted to know what you all watch. I'm not looking for similar movies, as I already have.
'Add-it': Road to Paloma is good flick. If I would ever have motorbike, I would have the same bike as Wolf's bike. I had dream about it since I watched Easy Rider, some 30y ago.
You should show them a movie like The Corpse Bride or The Nightmare before Christmas.. or the Polar Express.
Chinese children LOVE those movies.
icnif77:
I didn't mean movies for students. Students told me 'Frozen' is good, but that's cartoon/animated. I want good movie suggestions for myself. I'm going to edit.
the cobbler with adam sandler was not too bad, loaded on torrent 1337x.to, new tv shows of honorable mention "the night shift" and "the last ship".
icnif77:
I'm using FrostWire for music and movies, and more. Free p2p download.
Hotwater:
I enjoyed the last ship.....been waiting for series 2 to see how it develops.
It is sad that i liked Notting hill and finding Mr Right
I need a dose of Rambo or expendables
icnif77:
I like Notting. It's funny as fok. The T-shirts for the date, and mayo eating. I showed it to the students. They were all too cold after. I couldn't get anything about the movie from them. Next one I showed them was The Imitation Game, about A.Turing in 2nd WW. Great flick.
They like 'Snatch'. I wanted to show them different English accents. They sat like bozos in the class, but they were all exited, when they saw guns.
They like anything else except me asking Qs/free talk and running IELTS tests.
icnif77:
Rambo with Sistine, 16y old daughter model sporting on Y!:
http://www.eonline.com/news/663685/sylvester-stallone-s-16-year-old-model-daughter-sistine-is-stunning-check-out-her-good-looks
It's only one pics. Why do they say 'check out her good looks'?
Jaws
Terminator
T2
Midway
Ben-Hur
Casablanca
Gone with The Wind
icnif77:
No movies from 1990or 70-tis? None of your movies will comply with the latest OS X/QuickTime.
On FW you must have loads of other 'peers' with movie in their library. The oldest movie I have is 1966 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly'. Keeper.
icnif77:
That's my Gran's movie 'Casablanca' H. Bogart. I'll watch it tomorrow (early) in the morning.
diverdude1:
He put the c in cool ... u should definitely check out The African Queen.
icnif77:
Do you think, it's possible to guess age of the poster by 'fav movies'?
I think, you might be around 103. Not that anything is wrong with your 'mature age', just you must be in China on spousal visa, I mean 'no FEC'.
I can't get Queen, because not enough peers to share.
Popular movies = over 10k peers, and opposite....
diverdude1:
haha,,, yep, I'd say what movies and bands a guy picks as his/her fave is a definite insight into age. but perhaps not 100% tell-all. I'm actually a child of the 70/80's,,,, but, I do dig the 'old classics'. Ben-Hur is just a bad-ass movie and will be a bad-ass movie in 2115.
icnif77:
Ben Hur was released in 1959.
I think in that time, they were still writing with pheasant's feathers and pitchers of dip ink on the sideon the paper made out of weed. Not smoking it, writing. Today in new age, everybody's smoking it.
American Sniper.
San Andreas was surprisingly fun movie to watch. It should have been very bad.
Amour fou. french romantic comedy.
Lock, stock and two smoking barrels. From the people who made Snatch.
Fight Club
Two funny zombie movies... Shaun of the dead and Zombieland.
The Green Mile
icnif77:
I didn't like Lock. Martian told me about, but Snatch is much better IMO. I'll look for Green.
Green mile is good one.
Shining_brow:
In searching for Zombieland, I found there was a 1-off pilot for a series...
Shaun of the Dead was good! :-)
Anyone who didn't like Lock, Stock, just shouldn't be teaching IELTS preparation!!!!
icnif77:
'Snatch' is better version of 'Lock..'. I saw 'Snatch' first....amazing movie, and what not. Then I got 'Lock...' and it looks too similar to Snatch, because Ritchie made both.
Stiggs:
A zombieland series? I'll have to google that, see if it ever got past the pilot stage.
And Icnif, not liking Lock is like not liking beer Snatch is a great movie but Lock has Lenny 'the Guvnor' Mclean ( spelling ? ) in it . A real life hard man playing a movie hard man.
icnif77:
I watched Lock again today. I think, Snatch is better version of the same ganre, and both movies have similar items and dialog. 'Passes the blow', 'counted notes in plastic wrap', ending in Lock with '2 guns' and in Snatch 'dog with big diamond in belly' and similar. You can tell both movies were made by the same director.
I find Lock much messier to follow than Snatch.
My vote is on 'Snatch', and I was surprised I've never heard or read anything about it in 2001.
Martian mentioned both movies here some two years ago.
