Q: What's up with men purses? Is it a virility sign?

Tying up two questions into one. Really, what's up with men purses around here? It even looks like it proves social standing. Isn't it supposed to be for women? Or maybe it shows virility here in China, i wonder...Today, I went outside to get my lunch and i saw a couple: the guy was carrying his man purse as well as his girlfriend's purse, and looked damn proud about it!

Can anyone explain what I'm missing here?
