Q: Whats the most shameful thing you have seen today?

One more rant....  On the same train from Kowloon to Shenzhen and its packed. I am in first class with a seat and others are standing. The guy in front of me has an empty seat next to him with his man purse on it.  So a mother can see it and gets her 6 year old to go sit down. This guy is pissed. Not trying to hide the fact at all that he wants to be left alone.  And we are all watching this mother stand.  Now I understand people dont wanna give up their seat. They paid double for the privilage so they should keep it.  But I cant stand it so I stand up and insist she takes mine.  The guy pretends he cant see. Anyways the mom doesnt want my seat so she thanks me profusely and puts her son on her lap.  Everyones happy , except this guy who is still bitching.  About 20 other people are standing around too. Old people, women, children, business dudes.  But I aint gonna offer twice and make more of a scene.  Anyways, we get to the second to last stop.  And this is where the train guy comes on to check tickets ( kind of prejudice, as this guarentees only chinese are on the train and then they dont need to ask HK people if they are cheap dicks but anyways)  At this stop, this dick, who has been watching women and children stand and bitching about losing his spot for his murse then gets up and quickly changes cars. This son of a bitch didnt pay for his ticket! and he had the nerve to complain!!! I was shocked. How chinese people can be so low is beyond me.

I saw nothing unusual today

just the same old day.. saw a girl taking a poop at the entrance of the mall..

as usual saw drunk Chinese walking like zombies in the street..

same old sights of people shouting on phone in the bus...

nothing special today, except surprisingly today only 3 bikers were about to bump into me had I not jumped at the last second...

But I haven't seen anything unusual or shameful today....

And I am sure Mike you are also mistaken, you haven't seen anything shameful or unusual today...you just witnessed a Chinese culture of oldies...

i tried to stay inside today but i went to dinner at a nice hotel buffet and saw the waitress putting ice in a glass of beer, just shook my head and they did not understand why i would not have a beer since none of refrigerators was actually on for the beer, just a nice place to store the beer, so i had coffee with my buffet. nothing cold to drink and its only 38 c today. one day i will go native and roll up my shirt and drink warm beer and spit on the sidewalk and maybe beat my back against a tree, but not today, im tired from being so civilized.

on metro lotsa guys sitting while women stand,, including not so young women.  Communism means Equality. right?

Mateusz:

So, it's shameful that people don't base seating on sexism? I don't have a problem with expecting the healthy folks to give seats to people with physical needs (pregnant, injured, elderly, etc.), or with small children, but there's no reason a woman deserves a seat more than a man just because she is a woman (unless you consider being female a physical disability).

Eorthisio:

Mateusz has a point, by giving your seat to healthy women as you would give it to elders, pregnant women or disabled people you basically admit that you consider women as physically inferior to men, which is quite funny in a society that pushes toward more equality between genders (even if it's less obvious in China).

And before anyone come here using the "but you have to be a gentleman" excuse, back then in the gentlemen era (19th and first half of the 20th century) women were considered as household keepers, not equal to men.

You can't have both, make your choice.

Didn't pay attention. Some guy did overtake me on my right side as I slowed down for some pedestrians. The interesting thing was, I was in the right lane already.

The most disturbing thing I saw in China were cages of puppies that were so crammed full, they couldn't move. It was late at night, the cages were thrown off a truck, then men rammed steel poles through the cages (puppies screaming) to lift them on a 3 wheeler. These weren't all street dogs that breed back to a basic short hair, some were long haired. I wanted to do something but realized I'd only make trouble for myself. I couldn't buy and take care of them. ( I could at home). I later mentioned this to my girl friend (who has a dog) and how upsetting and cruel I found this, of course this is one of those times that Chinese won't talk to me. I'll never get over it, so cruel.

I agree with Stiggs, but also the other story that popped up on China Smack about the grandparents letting their grandchild take a dump on the seat in the economy section of an aircraft while in flight. Despite being told to take the child to the toilet they just layed a sheet of paper on the seat and let him shit on that, then when everyone else complained of the smell they acted as though they had done nothing wrong.

Stiggs:

That was the 2nd most shameful thing I saw. I mean... WTF !  Shitting on the seat ??

I done something I was really ashamed of today. It's soooo hot, and to cool myself down I popped into a bar and had a G&T with lots of ice and a slice.

"Thank you England ", I declared. " You invented the best drink ever for a hot day in the sub tropics".

No way can I ever go back to Scotland after saying that .

You're talking about the east rail line on the MTR right?

Wow that's fucked... you don't get to expect a seat for your bag at rush hour. Figures it was some asshole didn't even pay for his ticket.

Do they always just not check until Shung Shui or something? I've only done that a couple times so I never noticed. You'd think theyd do it randomly to prevent freeloaders from finding the pattern.

mike695ca:

Yup, east rail line. No they dont check, it used to be an honor system but now that so many chinese use it they have to start checking it. But they only check it when it leaves china and when its got one more stop back to china. I have never seen them check during any of the HK stops which seems blatantly predudice but to be fair ive seen abour 5 people get caught and given tickets and not a single one has even been cantonese.

I know they started limiting the amount of goods you can carry on that line. Stopping people from using it as a free freight service. It is obnoxious to commuters just trying to get home from an honest days work.

I have just been out to a restaurant. On the way back, I passed an aquatic centre and pet store. There were some gerbils in a cage on the floor just outside the door. A fat, spoilt little coont who couldn't have bee more than about five years old first kicked the cage then picked it up and shook it  whilst mother and shopkeeper stood behind chatting and laughing.

I was walking behind an old guy carrying two big buckets hoisted over his shoulder via a piece of bamboo. When I got closer I smelled something so gross. I was like WTF? Then I got close enough to him to see that he was carrying two big buckets half full of human crap. He was apparently a farmer headed to his field to smear this all over the place. Wash your vegetables!

DrMonkey:

When staying at the home of my then-gf, I saw her grand-father taking care of a vegetable patch, on their large balcony. My then-gf mentioned that the grand-father fertilized the vegetable patch with human feces. Yup, plain old shit directly scooped from the toilets.

This practice is old, it's called "night soil". Human feces are working well as a fertilizer. It can be perfectly safe, if the excrement are processed properly : it should be composted. I think it's a pretty damn good idea if done properly, it's much better than just wasting it after cleaning it from sewage water, which is expensive and polluting. It's also better than synthesized fertilizer, which are quickly depleting phosphate deposit while polluting many rivers across the world ;)

Thanks for the new information, didn't know that. I am no expert on crap, but the stuff he had looked pretty fresh, def not composted.

I'm amazed in rural areas that they don't use compost toilets. Basically water free toilets where after about 6 months the poop & per has turned to compost/fertilizer that can be used for farming. Seen them used at lots of small festivals in the UK. Far better than just spreading raw shit on the ground!

Yesterday evening, I go jogging with my wife. We pass next to a construction site, at the time workers start leave. Beginner's error... One worker loudly comment about Chinese women going with visibly foreign people, implying she was a whore, a gold-digger and whatnot. Picture the guy as your average pot-belly dweller sporting a Beijing bikini. I roll my eyes, telling myself "so predictable". My wife snaps, she stops and yell at the guy, calling the guys gross manners. The guy won't apologize or leave of course, he just add the second layer of insults. I just tell my wife to go, those guys are beyond. I call the guy a tubi and give them the finger, they get apeshit, we leave and keep jogging. Nope, no racism in China.

Myself. Just looked in the mirror, and saw a morbidly obese corpulent beast, couldn't reach my own ass to wipe my own ass with the toilet paper, so I just took a shower.

If you can't wipe your ass with paper, you shouldn't be able to do it in a shower too.

I was on a bus through the city at rush hour. The bus is packed, with many people who are standing having trouble even finding things to hold on to as the bus lurked down the road. This one selfish c*nt in her late teens/early twenties was sitting in the aisle seat, with an empty window seat next to her. An elderly lady got on the bus, and came to stand right next to her. SC looks up from her cell phone, stares the old lady in the eyes for a good 15 seconds, and then goes back to texting. I mean, why should she move to a slightly less convenient seat during a time when most people are standing just for an elderly woman? SHE'S IMPORTANT!

Also, as I am typing this, some idiot is laying face down in his girlfriend's lap. He was faceup, kissing her boobs like a minute ago. I cannot make this shit up.

Today I've seen a guy on a motorbike with 4 pretty big dogs in a cage on the back. Tragically the woman he'd stop to haggle with gave up before I managed to cross the road to see if I could buy one/them. Also, I only had 52 kuai in cash, probably not enough for an entire dog.

I got onto a geeky 30sth for staring at me.  asking him WTF?  I wasn't particularly aggressive, but I did kinda corner him and ask him WTF.  Shameful of me cuz they do it w/out malice.  It would make it so much easier on me if they did it with malice, like where I grew up near Mexico.  It was easy to understand an hombre,,, he would stare at me (gringo) cuz he wants to fk me up.  I think chiners just want me to 'fk' them...  <sigh>

This is actually from the day before today, but here goes.

Was sitting in the car waiting for the wife to do some shopping while I saw

First: 3 guys on one bicycle, my English language skills doesn't make it possible for me to fully describe human anatomy and bike anatomy in details as to what was exactly going on. Shameful part: They were all wearing Beijing Bikinis while hugging together on the bike.

Second. A fat guy, and I mean PROPERLY FAT walked between to cars parked in my field of view. He was giant (not very tall though) The shameful part: He bumped his ass into one of the cars and the alarm started.

In 2005 when I was living in Chengdu, I Just arrived home to a lot of loud" tooing and froing".. loud conversation, out side my window.

To my Shock horror there appeared to be a women laying at the bottom of an 8 story building, an apparent suicide.

HER BODY LOOKED ALL BROKEN, WHILE THERE WAS A CIRCLE OF RUBBER NECKERS STANDING AROUND HER, GAWKING..I SUPPOSE I ALSO DID MY OWN GAWKING, i video taped the whole scene, a few mintutes later, AN AMBULANCE OF SORTS?  2 men dressed in white came and covered the body with a sheet and quickly took her away on a stretcher..

MADE ME THINK OF MY OWN MORTALITY, AND OTHER FEELINGS AS WELL.. AND HOW HARD IT IS HERE FOR MANY CHINESE STRUGGLING ON MINIMUM WAGE, ETC!

Although suicide is very popular solution to these problems in asia..

mike695ca:

That is insane..... I wonder why they arent afraid of suicide?? Its not pressure i dont think, or they wouldnt do it for such stupid reasons like my mom made me cut my hair and my gf of two weeks dumped me. Is it a lack of religion? Or just blatent stupidity?
