This customer visited my office more than 1.5 monthes ago, he confirmed the order.
Then he sent me the artwork for making samples.
Then he never really process the order nor paid, I emailed him for many times and he never replied. I called him for many times, everytime he told he would reply but he never did. He's from South Africa. At the beginning, he acts like he's very much interest in doing business with my company and the boss gifted him an exoensive ship model.
Whats going on with this customer? Why he lied that he would reply everytime? What's so hard to tell that he cancelled the order?
Viki,
there are many reasons a customer would not want to do business with your company.
poor quality samples.
poor quality interaction with sales staff
another company offering a better price.
harassment from sales staff who don't get the message that they are not interested in doing business with a company.
maybe the South African spoke to previous customer who was cheated in some way
these are some of so many reasons that a potential customer would not want to continue doing business with you.
customers do not pay for samples.
a sample is a small part of a product that proves a company has the ability to fill an order and the quality the company is able to produce.
if someone wants to sell me something, i always ask for a sample of their work, as i would look for a sample of a student;s english, to gauge if they are able to perform at a certain level.
if the sample does not fit a customers quality criteria, they are not under any obligation to pursue with an order.
but then you should know this as you have been working in sales for years.
and to be honest bribing a potential customer with an 'expensive' gift is not seen as good business practice.
so the customer asked for samples.
asking for samples is not making an order, but then you know that because you have been dealing with international customers in this and other companies for a few years.
if you can not figure this sort of thing out by yourself, maybe you should not be in a job that requires you to deal with other people. Managers (and by this i mean professionals) should have a degree of understanding of other people and what motivates them.
i would suggest light-house keeper as a good career option for you.
I can think of a few reasons why this customer did not get back to you.
would you like to play a guessing game?
(hint - a half-way decent manager would be able to come up with a few reasons)
Viki87:
I think he probally not get well with his business and feel shamed to not order as he already promised.
