Lakers bar near my university is a gross place to eat; it's smoky, dirty (especially after a party the night before), the entire back half smells like a bathroom and the staff are terrible. But I eat breakfast there every weekend because they have sets with decent toast, eggs, bacon and fruit PLUS COFFEE for only 25 RMB. I mean, that's how much I would pay for just the coffee at other places. So I settle for all the other crap. What's your go-to hole in the wall/there's nothing else better restaurant?
The fast food chain KFC> I would rather eat a Hardees' burger!
I had a street vendor that I liked most nights mostly because they were nice.
I usually made my own breakfast, eggs, Tetley tea and a small loaf of bread that I love. Chinese ham and bacon sucks.
i wonder if that bread is available every where? In Guilin every store sells it, small egg bread loaf with shaved almonds. Last trip it was the first thing I went for, even before the GF.
My only western fix was the odd pizza from Sharons in Guilin.
Kroywen Pizza is my "eh, close enough" for New York style pizza. Haven't found a place that does good deep dish or Chicago style in GZ.
Nobody can replace my love for Hardee's fast food.
I, too found a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves American style breakfast. In fact, they may do it better than back home. Service is poor, though, very rude servers. Seems to be a trend.
Also, where I lived back home, the Indian food was terrible. Having lived and eaten at all the authentic Indian shops in the trade parts of GZ, I'm positive when I go back home, I will have a "eh, close enough" moment with the Indian buffet. The locals make Indian food the way it was meant to be.
Sometimes I just want some decent soup, salad, and pasta. There is a pizza hut knock off called Fizz. Its not that great, and the pizza sucks, but its cheap and "close enough"
