Including all kind of Drinks.....
Baijiu.....ok just kidding.
I live on beer, tea and coffee here...mostly beer, and it HAS to be cold!
We have a kind of wine ,called lao jiu, very nice ,most people drink it when dinner
You can not beat a bottle of real cold water, or a "wedding gown" bottle of beer.
HappyExPat:
a wedding gown boittle of beer is the one almost frozen, to the point that when out of the cooler, it will form a white frost on the outside of the bottle, and thus the wedding gown name
You mean, besides what I can drink at home. Um...milk tea? I also like the walnut flavored milk, although I still like chocolate milk better.
Coco's Jenjiu Naichai (Milk tea with black pearls and coconut jelly). Yum!
Chinese beer is nice, I drink it daily. The Chinese learned brewing beer from the Germans (master brewers). Even the cheapest Chinese beer is better than most US beers. I like yin yang..milk tea and coffee (daytime)..but my absolute fav (evening), is cobra wine!
Shining_brow:
OMG you're kidding - aren't you?? Most Chinese beers I've had are like a watered-down cordial :( Harbin was ok, and there was once a Qingdao I didn't mind, but otherwise... Maybe I've just been out of luck, and only had the crappier stuff - but seriously... (oh, hang on... yeah, better than AMERICAN beers... sorry.. I'm an Aussie :D )
I like the herbal tea I buy at the shop by my house and Harbin beer. It's so crisp! Mmmmm mmm!
Daily drink: Coke Zero
Typical bar drink: Tsing Tao
Fancy party drink: Baiju (Maotai or equiv) or brandy.
Funny/tragic drinking story:
When I first came to China, I brought very little with me. One of the things I did bring was a treasured bottle of 70 year old Napolean brandy.
One of my wifes relatives is an officer in the WJ and he invited me to have dinner at a military only restaurant. My wife told me this was a very big "face" thing and it was traditional for guests to bring a bottle of booze to the dinner.
So, in order to get brownie points, I brought along my bottle of Napolean brandy. When it was produced, it was handed from person to person and each one gave an appreciative ooh or ahh.
The officer had the waitresses bring in special brandy snifters for us to drink from, then they poured the brandy into each glass. Just as I was getting ready to enjoy my first whiff of this brandy, I noticed something that almost made me cry.
After one waitress filled each glass with brandy, another waitress followed up and topped the glass off with sprite. 70 year old Napolean brandy and sprite. I could almost hear the diminuitive despot spinning in his grave.
When the waitress tried to pour sprite in my glass I was only able to manage a "bu yao" through clenched teeth. To this day, every time I see someone drinking sprite, I can hear a French man crying in the distance.
GuilinRaf:
I sure would not tell the diminutive emperor that he is not "real" French, THAT is for sure! Then again, I truly do not know any Corsicans. Would they be Corsincan first and French second? Kind of like the situation in Texas. They are Texans first, Americans second....
kchur:
Well, supposedly he couldn't speak Corsican, so there you go.
