Q: What's your worst experience as an employee in china? Also stay away from Ginde in Zhuzhou Hunan!!

Not really a question, but a warning. I worked at Ginde in Zhuzhou (Hunan) up until yesterday. After giving my notice last month I received verbal threats, intimidation you name it. I can't even go to the police or local PSB as they are both in their pocket. For my own safety I had to do a runner. It cost me a month salary but nothing was worth what I was having to go through there. Luckily, I have secured employment with a school willing to start the visa application from scratch.

The boss and his right hand man Alex are nothing more then liars and thugs. They epitomise everything that is bad in China. They are corrupt to the core and I must say its just such a relief to get out of there.

The reason for putting this out there, is that I want to warn other teachers (particularly British teachers as that's what they will be looking to recruit) of what they are likely to face. As Alex is your main point of contact he will simply tell the boss what he wants to hear. As long as he protects himself he simply doesn't care. He is one of the most sorry excuses for a human being I have come across since working in China.

PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY AGENCIES TRYING TO OFFER YOU A JOB FOR GINDE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY DON'T DO IT. I JUST WANT TO GIVE ANY BRITISH TEACHER A HEADS UP ON WHAT HE/SHE MIGHT BE GETTING THEMSELVES IN FOR. IF ANY YOU ARE CONSIDERING AN OFFER FROM THEM DON'T HESITATE TO PM ME FOR MORE INFO.

On a similar subject what's your worst experience as an employee in China? No need to share schools or names. I just wanted to sound the alarm for any unsuspecting teachers they are trying to bait.

Hi. I used to live in Zhuzhou for a bit... wasn't a very good experience. Then again, I am not much of a fan of Hunan, outside of a couple county-level cities.

This might seem underhanded, but I recommend that you do a midnight run on all schools after you get the bonuses, if you don't intend to stay. They will fight you on everything most of the time.. Do not bother waiting around to find them a replacement. Just go.

My last school tried to steal my passport and hold me hostage. That was a hilarious mistake... I won't talk about what happened on here.

Anyway, I think you should edit your post to get rid of named mentions of that right-hand man. We don't need his name, or any personally-identifiable information of anyone on this forum (unless they give it themselves). Shaming a school is fine...

Thanks for the info - I liked the look of Zhuzhou city when I was there for an afternoon (had a great restaurant meal), and even think I saw the advert for this school on here - checked it out because its less than an hour from Changsha (10 minutes by gao tie, but you have to factor in getting to and from the stations!)

Thankfully I won't be in China again until next year, and am looking at Changsha city - any recommendations there?

Changsha is... terrible. Look for something up north.. the people are so much better there.

Agree with Hulk. Changsha, Zhuzhou and Hunan in general is such a scummy place to live in. Just a dirty and horrible cesspit when you consider some of the other places to live and work in. Right now I'm in Shanghai and loving it.

Yes you're right. It's been advertised here http://jobs.echinacities.com/jobchapter/1354413668. What they claim is false though. There is no Z visa provided. On top of this you'll have to teach 4 hours a day for 6 days a week (from the looks of it they have now made it a 7 day working week) whenever the children will be off school (sickness and holidays) and this accounts for roughly 50% of the year so don't think you will regularly teach 16 hours a week, this will be a quite rare. Worst of all, expect to be constantly told how to teach by their mother and the team of ayi's that look after them, none of which can speak English. There are also other parts of the role they expect you to do but don't mention it here. FOR YOUR OWN SANITY & SAFETY DON'T DO IT. If you are considering working for them and want more info, PM me.
