Q: When will my father in law accept that I WILL NOT litter around?

He sometimes gives me a ride to the bus stop in the morning and once I am done eating my breakfast in the car he points at the trash and goes:" just toss it out of the window, mei wenti!". So I reply that I don't do that cause I am not used to dumping trash everywhere and anywhere.
Every time the same exact conversation...will it ever stop?

Maybe, someday. If he is your father-in-law, you will just have to deal with it, right? Tell him you'll never dump it on the ground because you want China to stay beautiful, or to save some trouble for people who clean the streets.

Maybe he thinks its not a problem and would feel better about himself if you did the same?

Maybe he admires that you think littering is bad?

Or maybe he is testing if you will ever give in and pick up the bad habits around?

I hate it when they follow up that conversation with "but you have to do it, it's job security for someone"

Maybe he doesn't want the rubbish in the car... it looks bad (for him, rather than looking bad for China outside the car... but that's not a reflection on him personally).

".....eating my breakfast in the car....."   I'm sorry, I have read your post a few times and that quote disturbs me. You make yourself sound like a school kid. If you act that way, there's no wonder why he treats you that way.

Set me straight.

I've never understood how such a nationalistic nation can treat its country like a big garbage bin.
