Q: When you go home what are the things you HAVE to do?

What are the fun things that you do when you go home that you feel just can't be done in China?

Find a decent pizza.

Turn off the VPN.

Remember how ridiculously addictive reality TV is.

Cook.

Have a real steak.

Talk with friends that I don't have to simplify my language for.

Tell a joke that people actually understand.

BBQ

Take a walk under a blue sky.

That can't be done in China?  That's a tuff one...   most things I do in the States can be done here, except seeing family of course. The thing is it's just done a different way with a very different 'feel'.

anyway, here are some of the things I like to do when I visit home.

1. Eat proper BBQ. Ribs, Baked beans, Cole slaw, BBQ sauce. omg

2. Eat Mexican food cooked by Mexican people. Maybe the best food in the world. guacamole, pico de gallo, refried beans, rice that has taste and flavor!,  best cheese enchiladas ever,,,   I lived many years near Mexico..

3.  BBQ cook-out in backyard with family & friends..

4.  Buy a few things off eBay that I have had trouble finding here.

5. Do all the Handyman work that needs to be done around my Mom's home.

5.  Swim in a backyard swimming pool.

6.  Go for Fried Catfish and Hushpuppies.

7.  Have my Mom cook me Black-eyed peas and cornbread !!   sooooo delicious !

Yep, I miss the food in the States.  I never found too many dishes I love in China. Peking duck is pretty darn good though..

Oh, and make some homemade bread and make a pizza too !  I love those modern bread machines....

Steak, ribs, assorted beef cuts (all kinds!)  Denny's style  breakfast anytime (waffles, pancakes, with real bacon and sausage), rice-and-beans (Caribbean style),  real Mexican food, real Italian food.

I haven't been back to the UK since I left nearly 2 years ago, and what's more, I don't intend to return unless I have to, or the situation changes. So I will answer slightly differently i.e. hypothetically, what would I do if I did go back...

1. Eat a blues rare rump steak.

2. Have a BBQ with properly butchered meat.

3. Eat a roast chicken without the bones being hacked into splinters.

4. Donner kebab.

5. Pie and Chips with gravy.

6. Vindaloo curry. (used to do phalls but probably not up to them anymore).

7. Live football match.

8. Concert without needing 5 mortgages for tickets.

9. Be cold!

10. Walk in the countryside and rediscover the different shades of green.

All of those I would do in the UK, however, I've travelled a lot so other things I would want to do.

1. Drink Guinness in Ireland (north or south)

2. Eat Pizza (Calzone) and ice cream in Italy.

3. Eat a full rack of ribs in Southern USA (I knew a place near Memphis that was awesome).

4. Ski in the alps.

5. Ride a fast bike through the Gorge de l'Ardech in S France.

gravy you must be from the North,Kebab with garlic and chilli sauce

I actually originally come from the midlands, but I do like some gravy. I was going to add black country faggots to that list, but I thought some of our American cousins may get totally the wrong idea on that one! angry

Naw. It would have been worse if you had written black country maggots! Well, almost!

True story:

I was with a new colleague from the UK. We had been making jokes and acting silly. Then, he suddenly tells me to "have a fag".

Immediately thinking I had indadverdently offended him, I began to apologize.  Soon, he starts to laugh and tells me that "have a fag" meant a cigarette.

Ah, the joys of slang....

I'm bored out of my skull at home and I sure miss the women. I haven't had any real food cravings, had pizza, cheese cake, apple pie, bacon eggs toast, I am enjoying BBQ beef almost every night. At home the cops are always bothering me and I find there are just too many welfare bums at home.

The only thing I miss about my home is my cats and dog. If I could take them with me, I'd sell my house. I pay more for property tax than I do for an apartment in China.

The first time away from home for more than a year...And going to go back in winter, hopefully (All fingers crossed!!! )

I guess I will do as follows:
