Wo Jia in Jing’an District is probably the best-known place for well-priced traditional Shanghaiese food. For modern Shanghai eats not on a budget, try Whampoa Club in Three on the Bund. Jade Garden is a chain, but offers legitimate local fare for reasonable prices. Hong Rui Xing also has a few different branches and gives larger-than-average portions.

If you go to Yuyuan Bazaar, on the main intersection (the big crossroads near the metro station) there is a giant building and on the side is written '老上海' - Old Shanghai. The restaurant is huge and covers 4 floors, and serves a mixture of Shanghai cuisine. The food is a little pricey but very good quality and there's masses to choose from.

Also there's a chain with two or three branches operating, called Yuanyuan (圆苑). There they serve a mix of Shanghai and Cantonese cuisine, and the atmosphere is great with pleasant service. Again, it's not on the cheap side, but it is upscale dining after all.

Check the link for their horrible website (all in Chinese though)

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
