Q: where is the quality solid wood furniture made/sold in china at?

Why is it that only cheap poor quality furniture is made in china and exported to America is all china has to offer on the market? It seems that only cheap inferior furniture that's made out of particle wood gets exported and sold to America! I know from a fact that countries like USA and Vietnam sell valuable hardwood logs or lumber to china for the Chinese furniture industry! So where is the quality solid wood no particle wood furniture at? Any informative answers on this subject only?

toilet paper is not provided in restrooms, books are written is small font size, there is simply not enough paper in china, too many people, not enough trees, containers of waste paper and cardboard are sent to china daily, the good furniture is actually made in indonesia now, quality furniture in china left years ago. a few places still produce but the numbers shrink every year, ashley furniture in wisconsin has had a hard time getting product made here for years.

Yes, you are almost  correct, inferior wood furniture is the ONLY thing China exports to America. The reason?

Could be that the average person doesn't want to blow a wad on quality, or with the job market/economy not having a win there is a huge market for junk. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Here I am sitting at a hard wood table on a hard wood chair. Great quality but my arse hurts after several minutes. This could be another reason.  Other friends with similar furniture report the same issue.

However, in answer to your question, perhaps if you google: Zhongshan, Da Chong solid wood funiture you will get numerous results. This is just one of a many of choices available but this relatively famous, whole town is geared up to make solid wood furniture (mostly for the domestic market but export is also common).

cub:

Question, so if a company in the USA a small company wanted to send quality hardwood furniture of any type to china to sell would this be feasable? Would this be a success would there a big demand or china wouldnt allow this?

iWolf:

One would expect that it would be allowed. I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be.

Perhaps the sticking point would be finding a market. Certainly there may be a niche market amongst certain types but I would guess that the American furniture would be quite expensive compared with locally made products due to the difference in the cost of wood, cost of labour and the real killer, the cost of transportation (weight to size ratio). Unless you think that local people would pay a premium for american made.

i would think the wealthier higher income chinese if they want quality funiture knowing whats made in china is cheap would pay a premium for quality hand made solid wood furniture being money isnt a problem for them! And im talking furniture that isnt made on a assembly line kind of like a special order piece of furniture! Like i have mentioned if a large cedar chest made out of solid cedar the size of 24x24x48 inches if chinese even know what a cedar chest is and i have heard many ''No'',s

Sorry Cubtard but this is all hypothetical anyway. You don't have the money to come here to marry you imaginary village seamstress so your dream of taking the chinese wood furniture market by storm is just that. A ridiculous dream. You can't buy cedar boxes with foodstamps. It doesn't matter which sheltered workshop you work in.

i suggest you come up with a solid business plan - this would require a lot of research, none of which could be done on a forum like this.

on the ground research is needed.

You would also need a lot of capital.

China supplies what the buyers order. Come on cubby.

Also, remember that many types of hardwood sales are controlled by western law. I think Gibson guitars recently got on the wrong side of the law on this with their wood source. Its all to do with sustainability. Do you really want to cut down a 600 year old tree just so you can have a nice table to eat your fish fingers at?

There was a recent story in the press about illegal Chinese loggers in Burma. Its worth a google. Burma takes its trees seriously as it is one of its main export.

Hardwood furniture is not a good business idea. BIg and bulky, full of air. Not many units to a 40 foot container. Shipping cost becomes a major factor.

Think of something safer to import to the states. Panda ivory for example. Get loads into a container, so your logistical costs will be minimal.

That's true, most of the wood furniture here is shit, but I have found a handicraft in an old district in my city where they make absolutely gorgeous and very solid custom wooden furniture, from beds to tables to shelves to door frames.

At that place, whatever you need they can do, if necessary one of the staff will come to your home and take the dimensions of the room.

Of course the price is higher than the cheap junk you can buy on taobao or JD, but you get what you pay for.
