Q: Where to take a hurt dog apparently without owner in the street? (In Shanghai)

Outside my compound there is a dog who seems to be seriously hurt in one leg. Does anybody know where to take him if I go and help. I have no time to adopt him but I can't leave him there.

Too cold outside and I think he may do something stupid and be hit by a car. Anyone know about a phone or place to take him?

When you say he may do something stupid and be hit by a car are you implying the dog may try to  commit suicide?

Have we not all had our rabies shot

contact Doctors Beck & Stone and ask what to do. they should be able to speak English and have two locations in Shanghai. http://www.doctorsbeckandstone.com/index.php/contact I would agree not to touch it without professional advice, unless you happen to have worked a lot with dogs in a past life.

Scandinavian:

by the way, just remembered that our vet has several animals living in their office (dogs and cats), I think they are up for adoption, but for as long as we have been coming there, they have had an old grumpy girl lying in the corner of the office, noone wants her so she stays in the office and gets food every day, and tells any nosy dogs that come to the clinic to not go to her corner.

Maybe such a vet exist in Shanghai too.

Unfortunately I don't think there's much you can do to help this dog. Since it doesn't have an owner, it's not used to people, which could be a very dangerous situation if you try to approach it. That is, if it doesn't run away. There are a lot of loose dogs out there in China. Besides, once you help the dog, what can you do? Feed it? Ignore it? You can't give it a home, and obviously no one else will. I know that it is sad to see, but don't put yourself in harm's way. As pogger said, the risk of rabies, or even just a bite, isn't worth it.

On a side note, many dogs that do have owners aren't getting the care they need either. I knew some people who weren't feeding their dog meat, probably because they barely ate any themselves. They claimed the dog doesn't eat, but when all you give a dog is some vegetables like pumpkin, what do you expect? They seem to think chickens are vegetarians too. Want a vegetarian pet? Get a rabbit, then you can eat it later.

morocotopo:

Yeah thx. Or course I cant approach if I dont know how's the dog. I went to have a look yesterday and the thing is that dog was tied with a chain somewhere. I dont know how he was released from there but he's still tied to the leg and is broken. I tried to get close to see if the dog is cool about it but he was afraid of me and ran away and thats it. Of course considered the thing about rabies and I just wanted to not let him just like that.

Cheers

Take it to a nearby restaurant. They'll know what to do with it.
