Contrary to your intention of turning this post into a race baiting Chinese bashing thread, most of our complaints are strictly environmental and not racial.

There is a MASSIVE difference between Chinese in Canada that came as young children and were raised in the west...and those that arrived later in life.

Environment....morals, ethics, knowledge and real education makes a huge difference.

I would complain just as much if I lived in India or Russia....not about a race of people but about behavior and customs learned because of environment and government.

So whether you work for the CCP or ECC please go race bait elsewhere.

When I first came here I expected the law to be harshly enforced and for police and soldiers to be on every street corner watching their citizens closely. It didn't take long to realise there isn't even basic rule of law here.

Good at math? Maybe a select few. Amazes me in shops when you buy 2 or 3 items and they use a calculator to work out the bill. In my experience they are no good at simple mental arithmetic.

and how they pass the new hundred yuan bill twice through the counting machine...they have to confirm twice it is a single 100 yuan bill

Yeah I work in an analytics role and i'm known as the "math guy" in the office.

I do have a minor in mathematics to go with my finance degree but it's more that i'm better at practically applying concepts to excel spreadsheets than that i'm especially versed in calculus or anything.

Taking tests and applying practical knowledge are two extremely different things.

Disclaimer - These are of course very broad categories and many Chinese people do not fit into the stereotype. Except the last one......

They are frugal and financially responsible- true for the older generation but not the younger one

expatlife26:

Totally true.

Nobody who spends 2-3 months pay on a phone is in any way frugal.

They might live like total shit to save money but if it's just to buy consumer crap it doesn't count.

I actually like the Chinese people in general. They just have some odd (to my thinking) way of doing things.

There is a shelf-life on enjoying your time in China and having respect for the Chinese people in general.  Some people get fed up after a year, for me it was after four years, others stay until they're married and then they're stuck.  Once I learned the language and got to know the true China, that was it for me.

I have some really close Chinese friends, but they are not typical Chinese people--they've been abroad or have at least had their eyes opened by exposure to the world beyond the wall.

The only Chinese stereotypes that I was aware of before coming here were...

Big country..many people...everyone eats rice and they're all short and look the same.

Yes, yes, no, no, no.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
