I am in Wuhan. City is developing extremely quickly. Apartment buildings going up wherever you look...
A good amount of Western restaurants, coffee shops and so on.
Airport also being upgraded and will soon have many direct international flights.
Overall, while not being a very scenic city, life is good here by Chinese standards. What's your city like?
Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province. This is a small city near Wuxi and Suzhou.. It is a good city. Pollution is typical for a "rural" community. It is very clean and somewhat modern. I claim that it has an identity crisis, not knowing if it wants to be Chinese or Western. The city really began to grow and develop only about 10-15 years ago from rural farmlands. Transportation is pretty good here. Next year, the city will be connected to a high speed train. The area is one of the wealthiest places in China, and has some of the best schools in China. There is enough Western amenities to keep the foreigners happy (Metro, Walmart, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Subway). There are numerous parks and green spaces, with manicured boulevards. The city is still in growth mode, with many new complexes rising to the sky. It is relatively easy to travel by bus or car to Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, and Nantong. There are rural area to escape to and some "mountainous regions nearby too. Overall, it is a quiet "bedroom" style community you might find outside any western city.
I already answered this same question on another post, go look it up.,
